Town to help fire company buy engine

August 06, 2002

SHARPSBURG - Sharpsburg Town Council voted Monday night to give the Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Co. $40,000 to help it buy a new fire engine.

To receive the money, the fire company must turn over its financial statements, Mayor Sidney Gale said.

Gale said the new fire engine would replace a 1979 truck the company has been using. The company wants to replace its old engine because maintenance costs were rising, Gale said.

The new fire engine is expected to have a life span of about 20 years, he said.

In addition to the money awarded by the town, the fire company has $60,000 set aside for the fire engine and will finance the remaining $205,000 needed, Gale said.
