Funkstown 10, Talbot 0

SALISBURY, Md. - Adam Dick pitched an eight-inning, five-hit shutout, while the Funkstown Legion offense remained hot in a 10- victory over Talbot in a loser's bracket semifinal at the Maryland American Legion Tournament on Sunday.

Dick struck out five and walked one for his first tournament victory of the season. He was 6-0 in the regular season.

"(Dick's) really stepped it up," Funkstown manager Darryl Powell said. "His curveball was really breaking and we had some scouts say they couldn't hit the curveball. He spotted his fastball, and they never had any threats at all."

Gerry Spessard, Danny Fowler and Josh Carter had two hits, Aaron Showe and David Miner had three hits and Matt Hess had four hits as Funkstown won its second straight game by the 10-run rule. Showe, Carter and Fowler had two RBI and Hess had three RBI.

"It's been a continuation (of the Western Maryland District playoff series)," Powell said.

Funkstown plays Severna Park in the loser's bracket final today at a time to be determined.
