North High athletic staf will meet

North Hagerstown High School athletic staff will host a pre-season meeting Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. for all school athletes planning to participate in fall sports.

The meeting is mandatory for athletes and their parents and will be held in the auditorium. All athletes should turn in their physical and insurance forms at the meeting.

The school's Student Government Association will sponsor freshmen orientation Wednesday, Aug. 21, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium. The theme for the event is "Hundreds of People Piecing Together One Puzzle at NHHS."

Enrollment/orientation at Hedgesville School

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - New students enrolling at Hedgesville High School may do so beginning Tuesday, Aug. 13.

To register, students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and have a birth certificate, transcripts from previous school, immunization records and proof of residence.


Students or their parents may call the school at 304-754-3354, extension 3106, to schedule an appointment with a counselor.

The school will host a freshmen/new student orientation for parents and guardians only on Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Frederick school system awarded

FREDERICK, Md. - Frederick County Public Schools' "School Report 2001" recently won a national award of excellence in competition with 1,348 entries from school systems throughout the country.

The report, mailed in January to all Frederick County residents, was featured at this year's National School Public Relations Association conference in San Diego, Calif.

The report is an annual publication that describes school system programs and initiatives, provides achievement and enrollment data, outlines school construction plans and details operating and capital expenditures.
