Police: Car used in woman's kidnapping found in Florida

August 02, 2002

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - The car that a woman and man allegedly used to kidnap its owner was found in Florida, Sgt. Burnett of the West Virginia State Police said Thursday.

No other information, including whether those who were charged in the kidnapping were found with the car, could be confirmed.

A magistrate issued warrants last month charging Brandon D. Green, 32, and Amber Cummerit, age unknown, both of Wrangler Avenue in Martinsburg, with kidnapping and grand larceny. Green also was charged with unlawful/malicious wounding.

Police said a woman drove to a Berkeley County home to go car shopping with Cummerit. Two men who were at the home when the woman arrived choked her and bashed her head into a wall, police said.

After using weapons to force the woman into the trunk, the assailants took the car to Maryland, police said.

The woman managed to open the trunk lock as the car turned around in the median on Interstate 70, police said. Other drivers saw her and called police.
