Girl, 9, hit by truck at city intersection

A 9-year-old Hagerstown girl was hit by a truck on Tuesday when she ran into the road at the intersection of Salem Avenue and High Street in Hagerstown, police said.

The girl suffered a concussion, scratches and bruises, and was taken to Washington County Hospital for treatment, City Police Sgt. Tim Wolford said.

A doctor told police the girl would soon be released from the hospital, Wolford said.

Wolford would not identify the injured girl because she is a juvenile.

At 5:26 p.m. Tuesday, the girl went into the road for an unknown reason and into the path of a truck driven by James Masser, 30, of 10916 Church Hill Road, Myersville, Md., according to Wolford.

Masser was driving east on Salem Avenue and had a green light to go through the intersection, Wolford said.

"The truck had the green light. It was the pedestrian's fault," police Officer Joe Okronley said.

Two charged with W.Va. home break-in

BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - Two Berkeley County men have been charged with breaking into a house on Henshaw Road on Monday and stealing a gun and other items inside.

Springer was also charged with transferring stolen property.

Someone who was with Reid and Springer told the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department that Reid used a screwdriver to pry his way into the house and that Reid and Springer took a .45-caliber handgun, a video recorder, a cell phone and a hat, according to a criminal complaint.

Springer allegedly sold the video recorder to someone for $70, police said. All of the items were recovered.
