Marie L. Thompson

QUINCY, Pa. - Marie L. Hahn Thompson, 94, of Quincy United Methodist Home, and formerly of 213 N. Potomac St., Waynesboro, Pa., died Monday, July 29, 2002, at the home.

Born Nov. 12, 1907, in Smithsburg, she was the daughter of the late George C. and Carrie Belle Ott Hahn.

Her first husband, Roy A. Fuss, died in February 1947. Her second husband, Charles L. Thompson, died April 7, 1971.

She attended Smithsburg schools.

She was employed at Waynesboro Knitting Mill as a folder. Prior to retiring in the mid-1960s, she was a polisher at Waynesboro Shoe Factory.

She was a member of Blue Mountain Church of God, the Ladies Bible Class and Women Christian Service Council. She attended Wayne Heights Brethren Church.


She is survived by four sisters, Mildred Wilhide, Naomi Shifflette and twins, Kathleen Minnick and Ilene Barkdoll, all of Smithsburg; two brothers, William Hahn of Smithsburg, and Eugene Hahn of Waynesboro; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Hilda I. Beam; and one brother, Norvin Hahn.

Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. The Rev. Harold W. Walton will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kathaleen F. Brondoli

WAYNESBORO, Va. - Kathaleen F. Brondoli, 82, formerly of 153 Valley Road, died Monday, July 22, 2002, at Augusta Nursing Rehabilitation Center.

Born Jan. 4, 1920, in Hagers-town, she was the daughter of the late George Rowland and Corinne Charles Blume.

Her husband, Eugene P. Brondoli, died in 1991.

She was a 1937 graduate of Hagerstown High School and Columbia Business College.

She worked as an executive secretary and bookkeeper in Frederick, Md., Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and Toledo, Ohio.

She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.

She volunteered for organizations in Waynesboro and served on the board of the United Church Nursery.

She is survived by one son, Michael P. Brondoli of Durham, N.C.; one daughter, Karen B. Mowen of Waynesboro; one sister, Sara J. Rowe of Smithsburg; and five grandchildren.

Services were held at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church on July 25. The Rev. Robert J. Humphrey officiated. Entombment was in Augusta Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Roy B. Nichols

Roy B. Nichols, 66, of West Baltimore Street, Hagerstown, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at his home.

Born June 20, 1936, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Elmer Samuel and Grace Mowen Nichols.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

He is survived by three sisters, Linda L. Newlin and M. Loretta Rhyne, both of Hagerstown, and Susan M. Obitts of Williamsport; and two brothers, Harold E. Nichols of Mercersburg, Pa., and John M. Nichols of Hagerstown.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Angle and Doris Weller; and two brothers, Robert Nicholas and Elmer S. Nichols Jr.

Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown, at the convenience of the family.

Sally A. Reed

Sally A. Reed, 68, of Hagerstown, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 1, 1934, in Altoona, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Stewart Dean and Mary Helen Pritchett Shaver.

She was a 1952 graduate of Altoona High School.

She retired from General Nutrition Center in Valley Mall, where she was store manager for 16 years.

She was a member of Grace Brethren Church in Hagerstown.

She was a member of National AARP.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne E. Reed; one daughter, Linda M. French of Hagerstown; one son, W. Allen Reed of Hagerstown; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Allen; and two brothers, Stewart D. Shaver Jr. and Robert Shaver.

Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dean P. Pryor will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Gardens, Hagerstown.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 t 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Roy L. Hess

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Roy L. "Grubby" Hess, 71, of Pensacola, and Country Club Road, Waynesboro, Pa., died Friday, July 26, 2002, in the crash of a small plane near Clear Spring.

Born June 9, 1931, in Washington Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Herman O. and Iva V. Kipe Hess.

He was a 1949 graduate of Washington Township High School. He attended Hagerstown Junior College and Penn State University.

He learned to fly at Waynesboro Airport in his teens.

He was a private pilot for more than 50 years.
