July 29, 2002

Editor's note - Please be as brief as possible when calling Mail Call, The Daily Mail's reader call-in line.

Mail Call is not staffed on weekends or holidays so it is best to call Mail Call during the week. The Mail Call number is 301-791-6236.

You are welcome to leave a recorded message on any subject, but some calls will be screened out.

Here are some` of the calls we have received lately:

"Mail Call, you make my day. I love page A5. It's a hoot to read the things in there. I love it, love it, love it."

"I too agree, Robinwood Drive would make a great spot for the new hospital. More parking, less congestion and easy access is only a few of the perks. Just think if you have anything medically wrong with you, God forbid, you could go to one place and get all the medical needs you need, instead of running all over town."

"I am the person who first called in about the toe fungus. It was simple, cheap and easy to do. It was simple, morning and night rub Vicks Vapo Rub in and around your toenails. Within several weeks you will see a difference and within several months, you will have new toenails. Beautiful, thin, no fungus. I continue this at least once an evening, after my bath, just in case there would be any fungus. My toenails were thick, yellow, terrible looking. They were lifted up and split in different place. I would never be able to wear sandals because I would be so embarrassed. I hope this works for you, too. By the way, Mail Call person, keep up the good work because it's my favorite part of the paper."

"Tim Rowland's column in Wednesday's paper was an absolute hoot, I rolled on the floor laughing. For those of you who don't read his column, you sure are missing some entertainment. He went on to tell what the Chinese eat."

"I have brown eyes, my son has blue eyes and my son's father had blue eyes."

"To those who are planning on voting for Mr. Mades in November, remember that a vote for Mades is a vote for an increase in taxes. As you can see, he wants another raise for his deputies."

"In response to the guy that thanked his brothers publicly for accepting God into their lives. Do you realize that there are scientific facts that God does not exist? I know this is going to spark a debate, but bring it on."

"I wonder why nobody has mentioned Fairgrounds Park for the possible site for the new hospital? It's a large leveled area with lots of space for parking."

"I don't think that the downtown site the new hospital is a wise decision. Come 20 to 30 years from now when they want to expand or things change, where would they go? Not a realistic move."

"I want to comment about the drug war. All you citizens complaining better open your eyes. I am a resident on South Potomac Street and I have called the city police several times on the alcohol and teenagers running in and out of the building, day and night. My husband and I called the police one night about 15 underage drinkers throwing trash all over the hallways, running in and out all times of the night. This started at 3 in the afternoon and continued through 4:30 a.m. They were drunk."

"We found a cell phone behind the yard of Mel's Tavern on Salem Avenue. If you can describe it, I would appreciate a small reward if possible."

"I have to go out to Robinwood Medical Center for tests and treatment from time to time. I hate the trip. I am more worried about being killed on Dual Highway than I am about dying from my disease. I wish they would move Robinwood in to be close to the hospital instead of the other way around."

"I am a grandmother who was shopping in the area of Valley Mall and Martin's on last Sunday morning. On each of the four corners at the intersection of Massey Boulevard and Halfway Boulevard. There were two young girls between the ages of 7 to 12. They were collecting money in buckets for a cheerleading group. I did not see any adults visible. The youngest girl came up to my car with a bucket and I gave her $1. In today's time with all the sick people and with all the young children being abducted. Had I been so minded, I could have opened the door very easily and pulled this child into my car and been gone before anyone could have reacted. I would not allow my granddaughter in any way to be involved in something like this. Certainly there are better ways to raise funds for children in these civic groups than to have these young children, in bathing suits I might add, standing on the corners. This is way too dangerous and not worth the risk. Come on, parents, rethink your positions. As a pediatric nurse, I certainly don't want to see these children harmed. Please reconsider allowing your child to do this."

"Does anyone know what we do with old phone books?"

- Hagerstown

"In regards to all the information on moving the hospital. I have something to add to that. Why do they want to take the houses on Cannon Avenue? The tenants out there now will take any amount of money they can get for their house. The best place to put the hospital would be Robinwood. Everything is out there and there is still a lot of land out there."
