Paul G. Campbell

WILLIAMSPORT - Paul Gilbert Campbell, 76, of 16505 Virginia Ave., died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at his home.

Born Sept. 25, 1925, in Minneapolis, he was the son of the late Lawrence Franklin and Gladys Brew Campbell.

He was a graduate of the University of Maryland, the University of South Carolina and Pennsylvania State University.

Most of his career was spent as a chemist at the National Bureau of Standards in Gaithersburg, Md.

He served in the U.S. Army 345th Infantry Regiment of the 87th Division of the Third Army in Europe during World War II.

He was a member of American Legion, VFW Post 10421, and the Honor Guard of Post 96, all of Brunswick, Md.; R.S. Tagg Jr. Post Chapter 14 of Hagerstown; and Disabled American Veterans.

He was a member of Pleasant Valley Ruritan Club, where he served as president, treasurer and zone governor over a period of 20 years.

He was a member and past president of the Washington County Forestry Board; Maryland Forest Association; served on the board of the Washington County Commission on Aging; and the Veterans Affairs Medical Clinic in Hagerstown.

He was a member of B.P.O.E. 378, AARP Chapter 628, and Washington County Arts Council and Museum of Fine Arts.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Harriet H. Campbell; and one brother, John Eames Campbell of Williamsport.

Services will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Sharpsburg. The Rev. John D. Alfriend will officiate.

Burial will be private.

There will be no viewing; however, the family will receive friends Saturday after the services at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, MD 21740; ALS Association, National Capital Area Chapter, 615 S. Frederick Ave., Gaithersburg, MD 20877; or St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 209 W. Main St., Sharpsburg, MD 21782.

Domnica Filip

BOONSBORO - Domnica Daniliuc Filip, 89, of Boonsboro, and formerly of Romania, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born May 27, 1913, in Suceava, Romania, she was the daughter of the late Vasile and Domnica Murariu Daniliuc.

She was a member of Romanian Church of God in Hagerstown.

She is survived by her husband, Leon Filip; three daughters, Maria Filip of Dearborn, Mich., Elena Enciu of Boonsboro, and Lidia Filip of Farmington, Mich.; three sons, Ilie Filip of Romania, Ioan Filip of Boonsboro, and Constantine Filip of Hickory, N.C.; 33 grandchildren; and 55 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sisters and brothers.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown. The Rev. Johnny Buia will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral chapel.




Elmer L. McAfee

Elmer Leon "Bubbles" McAfee, 76, of 134 East Ave., died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at Julia Manor Health Care Center.

Born May 27, 1926, in Porterstown, Md., he was the son of the late Thomas and Fannie Keats McAfee.

He retired from Byron Tannery.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as an apprentice seaman.

He was a member of Williamsport Assembly of God.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn H. Miller McAfee; four daughters, Judy C. Palmer of Myersville, Md., and Susan L. Brechbill, Elaine Ashkettle and Kimberly D. Socks, all of Hagerstown; three sons, Wayne E.L. McAfee and Thomas E. McAfee, both of Hagerstown, and Stephen D. McAfee of Hemet, Calif.; one brother, Gerald McAfee of Keedysville; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia McAfee; one son, David McAfee; one brother, Thomas McAfee; and two grandsons.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. Pastor Daniel A. Jordan will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

John E. Schetrompf Sr.

John Earl Schetrompf Sr., 72, of 17226 Reiff Church Road, Hagerstown, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born April 10, 1930, in Hancock, he was the son of the late Jacob Leroy and Grace Bishop Schetrompf.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian "Patty" Savage Schetrompf.

He was employed by Mack Trucks for 29 years, retiring in 1991.

He was a member of Wayside Baptist Church.

He was a member of AARP, and UAW Retired Workers Local 171.

He is survived by two daughters, Cynthia McGilliard of Waynesboro, Pa., and Carol A. Hartman of Smithsburg; three sisters, Rosetta Hermerath of Scottsdale, Ariz., Darlene King of Connellsville, Pa., and Linda Forrester of Beaver, Pa.; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, John E. Schetrompf Jr. and Scott T. Schetrompf; and two brothers, Donald Schetrompf and James Schetrompf.
