CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Franklin County Commissioners accepted a local contractor's bid Tuesday to level the sloping parking lot at the Greencastle Senior Activity Center.

The Board of Commissioners awarded the contract to Charles E. Brake Co. of St. Thomas, Pa., which submitted the low bid of $22,880.

The company has to complete the work within 30 days after the contract begins, said Kelly Livermore, assistant county administrator.

Once that work is completed, Antrim Township will provide a gravel subbase and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will complete the top two surfaces, she said.

Both agencies are doing the work for free through an agreement with the county that provides roadside trash cleanup through the Probation Department, Livermore said.

The leveling of the parking lot is the latest phase in the renovation of the center at 10615 Antrim Church Road.

The facility has been closed since May 1 for interior improvements and construction of an 1,800-square-foot addition.

Activities will take place at the Greencastle Church of the Brethren, 36 S. Carlisle St., until the project is completed.
