Police looking for man on robbery charges



A man believed responsible for two robberies and several thefts in Hagerstown in the past month has been identified as a former Howard County, Md., man who had been living in Hagerstown's West End.

Warrants have been issued for Leroy Venson Martin on two counts each of second-degree assault, robbery and attempted robbery, as well as one count of misdemeanor theft in two of those incidents, said Hagerstown City Police Detective Shane Blankenship.

Martin's last known address in Hagerstown was 33 Avalon, police said. Prior to that, Martin was believed to have lived previously in Ellicott City, Md., which is in Howard County.

The assault charges stem from a June 28 incident at Spickler's Market, 17 E. Franklin St., at 4:48 p.m. where the suspect grabbed the male employee while he was getting money from the till, and a July 19 incident at Wayne's Country Store at 4:49 p.m. where the suspect pushed the female clerk, Blankenship said.

The robbery and the attempted robbery charges also pertain to Wayne's and Spickler's Market, police said.

Martin is as a black man, is 6 feet 1 inches tall and 220 pounds. A native of Georgia, Martin is 38 years old.

City man facing drug charges sought by cops



Hagerstown City Police have a warrant for the arrest of Ky Deshong Harrison for failure to appear in court last November on drug charges.

Harrison, 23, is a black man, 5 feet 10 inches tall and 245 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. In the picture, Harrison has a shaved head.

His last known address was 100 N. Potomac St., Room 309.

The drug charges include possession with the intent to distribute illegal drugs and possession of illegal drugs.

Police seize drugs, cash from Md. man



FREDERICK, Md. - Police said a man already wanted on warrants for drug charges was found to have large amounts of illegal drugs on him when he was picked up Wednesday afternoon by Frederick City Police on West South Street.

Shabaka Young, 21, of the 1200 block of Alban Court, was searched at 2:10 p.m. by police who found a large amount of crack cocaine, some marijuana and $1,448 in cash on him.

Young has been charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana for the Wednesday incident, police said.

The arrest warrants were for additional counts of possession of cocaine and possession with intent to distribute marijuana, police said.




Watch, cash, AC unit stolen from area homes



The Washington County Sheriff's Department is investigating several incidents reported this week.

  • A breaking and entering was reported at a home in the 200 block of South Main Street in Boonsboro. A window was slightly damaged, police said.

  • A dealer tag number 1A-30193 was stolen from Hagerstown Ford on Massey Boulevard.

  • A watch valued at $70 was taken from a home in the 11000 block of Hickory School Road.

  • Police said $700 was taken from a home in the 9700 block of Clover Heights Road.

  • Holes were punched in a radiator of a van parked in the 11900 block of Sun Valley Drive.

  • A central air conditioning unit was stolen from a home in the 1100 block of Kuhn Avenue.

  • A Pioneer stereo valued at $300 was taken from a vehicle parked at Sharrett Inc. The driver's side window was damaged, police said.
