Deadline for Chambersburg Area Council for the Arts grant

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The July 31 deadline for grant proposals to the Chambersburg Area Council for the Arts is approaching fast. The Council for the Arts will award four $500 grants for arts programs and services presented within the Chambersburg Area School District boundaries between Sept. 1 and Aug. 31, 2003. Now in its seventh year, the regranting program is made possible with an award from the Local Government Program of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, with matching funds from the Borough of Chambersburg.

Grant proposals must be received in the Chambersburg Area Council for the Arts office/gallery at 75 S. Main St. by July 31 and should include a one-page program description and budget. Applicants are encouraged to present original projects with a focus on providing arts/cultural opportunities within the greater Chambersburg area for consideration. The four $500 grants will be announced Aug. 31 and projects must be completed by Aug. 31, 2003. Award recipients must file a final narrative and budget report at the conclusion of their project. Awards will be made at the discretion of the Council's Regranting Committee.

The Council for the Arts began this project in 1996, when it awarded three $500 grants. In 1997, the Council added a fourth grant of $500, and offered four ever since. Grant recipients in the 2001-2002 cycle included: Cumberland Valley Chamber Players for a workshop with CASHS orchestra students; Franklin County Library System for a performance at their 2002 Summer Library program with Paul Hadfield; Sunrise Kiwanis Club of Chambersburg for the 10th Annual Reading Rainbow Day; and Wilson College Performing Arts Series for a jazz/tap dance workshop with Shelley Oliver and David Leonhardt.
