West End ousted from state tourney

YOUTH LEAGUES

HUGHESVILLE, Md. - Berlin erased an early 2-0 deficit by scoring all of its runs in the middle innings Monday, which was good enough for a 5-3 victory to eliminate West End from the Maryland State 11-12 Year Old Tournament.

West End made a statement early in an attempt to stave off elimination as Kyle Beers hit a two-run home run in the first for a 2-0 lead.

Berlin countered with three runs in the third and two in the fourth off pitchers Chris Jackson and Tim Leather to take a 5-2 lead.

Leather, who finished with three hits, blasted a solo home in the fifth, but it was as close as West End could get.
