HUGHESVILLE, Md. - Henry Fitzgerald struck out 10 batters, but West End Little League dropped its first game of the double elimination Maryland State 11-12 Tournament, 3-2 to Arbutus.

West End, representing District 1, takes today off before playing an elimination game Monday at 5 p.m.

Colt League Sectional

Hagerstown C 11, Waynesboro 5: Cory Robinson and T.J. Fair had two hits each for Hagerstown. Allen Pisanti, Ben Cook and Eric Roland each had two hits for Waynesboro.

Chambersburg 11, South Adams 1: Brett Sellers had four hits, Drew McQuinn had two and Andy Carter homered for Chambersburg.

South Adams 15, Hagerstown C 5: Brock Harner and Jason Fowler each had two hits for South Adams. Justin Marshall had two hits for Hagerstown.

PONY District Tournament

Chambersburg American 15, Waynesboro 'A' 5: For Chambersburg American, Tyler Smith had three home runs. Josh Davis also had a home run. Ty Hollinshead had two hits, including a home run.


Hagerstown 'B' 13, Chambersburg National 2: For Hagerstown, Josh Dowler had three hits, including a home run. Alex Tyler and David Richards each hit home runs. Jerell Rodriguez had three hits.

Chambersburg American 12, Chambersburg National 2: Cal Helm homered twice to lead Chambersburg American over Chambersburg National in the district tournament losers' bracket. Adam Wiestling and Kevin Zeiger homered and Toby Celestino had two hits for the winners. Shane Hardback had two hits for National.

Jeremy K. Smith Tournament

National 13, South Mountain 9: For National, Bobby Marks had two hits.

National 10, Clear Spring 2: For National, Steven Mills had three hits. Steve Younker, Bobby Marks and Nick Stevens each had two hits. For Clear Spring, Wesly Truax had two hits.

South Mountain Minor Tourney

South Mountain 25, Conococheague 24: Steve Kauffman had five hits, AJ McMillion had three hits and Matt Jones had two hits for South Mountain. For Conococheague, Zach Clark and Zach Lucas each had three hits, and Steve Clavette had two hits.

South County Junior Tourney

Clear Spring 15, Conococheague A 5: Dustin Proctor and Darrin Jackson each had three hits, while Nathan Mills and Chris Penwell each had two for Clear Spring. John Combs homered and Jason Richard had two hits for Conococheague.

Conococheague B 11, South County A 10: Cullin Hemphill had two hits for Conococheague. Will Dayhoff had two hits for South County.

Thomas Evans 7-8

Valley White 19, Sharpsburg 9: Corey Scharenback had four hits and four RBI and Eric Bitner had three hits for Valley White. Jeremiah Hoy had two hits for Sharpsburg.

South Mountain 14, Halfway 9: Kody Newton, Joseph Mingolio and Justin Backman each had two hits for South Mountain. Ethan Coblentz and Cory Robinson each had two hits for Halfway.

Valley Blue 16, National 14: Brad Spickler, Rob Hogue and Ryan Bolton each had two hits and Hogue drove in three runs for Valley. Brett Barr and Ryan Butts each had three hits and Mac Socks added two hits for National.

Maugansville 13, West End 3: Mike Churchey had three hits and three RBI for Maugansville. A.J. Crampton had two hits for West End.

Thomas Evans 11-12

Sharpsburg 4, Clear Spring 2: Kody Swavki, Zach Stride and A.J. Jamison all had two hits for Sharpsburg. Danny Reed had two hits for Clear Spring.

National 11, Valley 0: J.R. Murray threw a one-hitter for National.

Maugansville 9, Conococheague 7: Adam Mills, Josh Constable and Derek Keeney each had two hits for Maugansville.

South Mountain 4, Clear Spring 1: Paul Merson had two hits and Tyler Fath struck out nine for South Mountain. Cody McCarthy had two hits for Clear Spring.

Federal 13, Halfway 3: Tyler Hornbecker and Callain McWilliams homered for Federal. David Bowan had two hits for the winners. Andrew Duff and Mike Warrenfeltz each had two hits for Halfway.


FUNKSTOWN - Matt Johnson had three hits to lead Funkstown to a 7-6 win over Mount Airy in the opening game of a Western Maryland District American Legion doubleheader Saturday.

Matt Allen and David Miner each added two hits. Miner struck out seven in his fifth win of the season.

For Mount Airy, Steve Lowery had three hits. Steve Stonesifer and Joe Moravec each had two.

In the second game, Miner had three hits and four RBI. Johnson, Allen, Josh Carter and Matt Hess each added two hits. Matt Wingard struck out six in his fifth win of the season.

Funkstown is 27-9 overall and 3-4 in the district.

BECKLEY, W.Va. - Jeff Mills threw a six-hit shutout and T.J. Bowser had two hits and two RBI to Funkstown. Matt Ridenour added two hits for the winners.


14th Annual Loudon Street Mile

WINCHESTER, Va. - Bobby Lockhart won the 14th annual Loudon Street Mile on Saturday with a time of 4 minutes, 21.9 seconds. Jared Prunty finished second in 4:29.2. Ryan Foster was third with a time of 4:31.6.

Chris Fox, 43, won the masters division in 4:45.0. Chris has been running sub five-minute miles for 31 years.

Sascha Scott won the women's event in 5:00.3. Brenda Schrank was second (5:07.3) and Maria Spinnler (5:13.9) finished third and set a masters division record.

Smithsburg Pride Days 5K

SMITHSBURG - Kevin Geesaman won the men's race with a time of 16 minutes, 9 seconds. The women's winner was Sharon Webb (19:24).

The masters winners were Mike Fitzgerald (18:18) and Carolyn Showalter (21:42).
