Preliminary hearing set for man accused of slaying estranged wife

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - A Chambersburg, Pa., man who is charged in the stabbing death of his estranged wife this month will appear for a preliminary hearing next week.

William Edward Cleary, 28, of 137 E. Garfield St., is scheduled for a court hearing July 25 at 1 p.m. before District Justice Larry Pentz in Waynesboro.

The hearing was originally scheduled for Monday but was continued.

Cleary is charged with one count of first-degree murder in the death of Teresa J. Cleary, 33, who died July 6 after being stabbed multiple times in front of her Fayetteville, Pa., home, according to court records.

Cleary was in Chambersburg Hospital for five days recovering from self-inflicted stab wounds, according to police. He is now being held in Franklin County Prison without bail.
