Dorothy M. Crider

SMITHSBURG - Dorothy Mae Crider, 71, of Jefferson Boulevard, died Friday, July 12, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Nov. 11, 1930, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Grace Pittinger Brewer.

She is survived by her husband, Charles L. Crider; two daughters, Vicki L. Nemcek of Hagerstown, and Kimberly S. Ritter of Cabins, W.Va.; one son, Michael D. Crider of Martinsburg, W.Va.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be today at 7:30 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. The Rev. J. Norman Mayer will officiate.

There will be no viewing.




Geneva M. Wood

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Geneva M. Wood, 79, of Hedgesville, died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at her home.

Born May 13, 1923, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Lydia Catherine Wolford.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Wood.

She is survived by three sons, James C. Wood of Gerrardstown, W.Va., Richard H. Wood of Cherry Run, W.Va., and Timothy D. Wood of Hedgesville; one daughter, Charlotte M. Mahony of Hedgesville; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. James L. Schuelke will officiate. Burial will be in Tomahawk Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Mary J. Christopher

BOONSBORO - Mary Jean Christopher, 57, of 7929-A 12 Old National Pike, died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at her home.

Born Aug. 11, 1944, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Howard V. and Marie Helen House McCollam.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Roland E. "Jack" Christopher; one daughter, Jodi L. Whittington of Hagerstown; two sons, John R. Christopher and Jim E. Christopher, both of Hagerstown; two sisters, Deloris A. Shillingberg of Hagerstown, and Catherine Brannagan of Baltimore; one brother, Ted F. McCollam of Gary, Ind.; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Jack H. Christopher; and one sister, Yvonne D. Brown.

Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, Hagerstown. Ted F. McCollam will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Cronon V. McCarty

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Cronon Vincent McCarty, 77, of Hedgesville, died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Oct. 17, 1924, in Hedgesville, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary Wyndham McCarty.

He retired from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 19th Infantry Division, known as the Tough Ombres. He was wounded in Normandy, France, and received several medals, including the Purple Heart.

He was a member of Hedgesville United Methodist Church.

He was a member of DAV.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Celia Henderson McCarty; one son, Stephen H. McCarty of Hedgesville; one daughter, Carole J. Kesecker of Martinsburg; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Terri S. Cofiell will officiate. Burial will be in Hedgesville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Hallie M. Frazier

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Hallie Mae Frazier, 87, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.

Born May 30, 1915, in Millville, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles Franklin and Flora Elizabeth Grove Longerbeam.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Clarence Albert Frazier.

She retired in 1979 as head cook from Jeffersonian Manor, Charles Town, W.Va., after more than 14 years of service. She was named Employee of the Year in 1977 for her expertise in the art of geriatric food preparation.

She was of the Pentecostal faith.

She is survived by two sons, Russell Junior Wilt of Martinsburg, and Larry Wayne Wilt of Charles Town; one daughter, Ruby Mae Wilt of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; one brother, Woodrow Longerbeam of Charles Town; one sister, Clara Pierce; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Robert L. Wilt; two brothers, George Longerbeam and Nelson Longerbeam; two sisters, Nellie Whittington and Ellis Cameron; and one half-sister, Abby Willingham.

Services will be Wednesday at noon at Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, Ranson, W.Va. The Rev. Mary Garrot and granddaughter Crystal Wilt Painter will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Madeline E. Clark

Madeline Elizabeth Clark, 76, of 9946 Downsville Pike, Hagerstown, and formerly of Boonsboro, died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Clearview Nursing Home near Hagerstown.

Born March 25, 1926, in Keedysville, she was the daughter of the late William and Dora Clark Fisher.

She was a homemaker.
