Michael W. Smith Sr.

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Michael Wayne Smith Sr., 39, of Harpers Ferry, died Friday, July 12, 2002, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.

Born April 1, 1963, in Fuquay Springs, N.C., he was the son of Ollie Ronald and Alice C. Beck Smith of Harpers Ferry.

He attended Jefferson High School in Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.

He was an electrician, with his father, at The Southern Electrical Service Co. Inc. in Leesburg, Va.

He was a member of Assemblies of God.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Michelle L. Smith of Harpers Ferry; a son, Michael W. Smith Jr. of Harpers Ferry; a sister, Rhonda C. Collins of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a brother, Joseph D. Smith of Kearneysville, W.Va.; and paternal grandfather Ollie L. Smith of Raleigh, N.C.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Anthony R. Smith.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Word of Faith Tabernacle, Kearneysville. Pastor C.D. Coley will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens Cemetery, Martinsburg, W.Va.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, W.Va.

Geraldine E. Shoemaker

Geraldine Evelyn Shoemaker, 81, of Hagerstown, died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 19, 1921, in Marlowe, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Karl P. and Alda D. Kelley Nunamaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard E. Shoemaker.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Shelva Smith and Betty Reid, both of Hagerstown; a son, Monty Shoemaker of Hagerstown; a sister, Meda Kelly of Ellicott City, Md.; a brother, P. Leroy Nunamaker of Benevola, Md.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Nunamaker.

She donated her body to medical research.

A memorial service will be Saturday, July 20, at 11 a.m. at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, Hagerstown. The Rev. Wesley Scouten will officiate.

Mozelle A. Strobridge

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Mozelle A. Strobridge, 85, of Martinsburg, died Friday, July 12, 2002, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.

Born in Fulton County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ira E. and Bertha E. Hess Douglas.

She was a member of the Church of Christ Northside.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Erving E. Strobridge; a sister, Imogene Hinckle of Hancock; a brother, Marshall Douglas of Berkeley County, W.Va.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Alma Harmison, and a brother, Gerald Douglas.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, Martinsburg. Brothers Dennis Mongan and Sherrill Mongan will officiate. Burial will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral chapel.




Dennis L. Kendall

Dennis Lee Kendall, 53, of 20417 King's Crest Boulevard, Hagerstown, died Friday, July 12, 2002, at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.

Born March 13, 1949, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Robert Lee Kendall of Hagerstown and Jane Long Kendall of Hagerstown.

He retired as a sergeant after 21 years with Roxbury Correctional Institution.

He attended Grace United Methodist Church and the Salvation Army.

He was a member of Classic Chevy Club International and Funkstown Sons of the American Legion and was active with the Classic Car Group for Children.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Judith Kendall; a son, Jason Kendall of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Leisa A. Kendall of Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. Mary Amundson will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Gladys M. Sprecher

Gladys Marie Sprecher, 81, of Julia Manor, Hagerstown, died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born July 6, 1921, in Clear Spring, she was the daughter of the late David Franklin Snyder and Laura Estella Bridendolph Snyder Mills.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Leroy Sprecher, in 1973.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by three daughters, Mary Grove, Betty Boloski and Jacquelin South, all of Hagerstown; seven sons, Russell Long, Roger Long, Dennis Sprecher and Thomas Sprecher, all of Hagerstown, and Michael Sprecher, Earl Sprecher and Ronald Sprecher, all of Williamsport; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Sprecher, and two sons, Donald Sprecher and Ricky Sprecher.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home, Clear Spring. The Rev. Daris Ford will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Clear Spring.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
