Four-wheeled hazard at golf course

July 10, 2002|by MARLO BARNHART

Golfers playing the 7th hole at the Hagerstown Municipal Golf Course had to deal with a bigger-than-usual hazard Tuesday afternoon - a full-sized car in the middle of the fairway.

Course employee Bobby Rowley said sometime between 3 and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, the unoccupied car rolled from the Ames parking lot, came across all lanes of the busy Dual Highway and ended up on the golf course.

"It nearly hit one car on the highway," Rowley said, amazed that more vehicles weren't in the area at the time.

He said he first knew about it when some golfers came to tell him there was a car on the course.

The car owner told Rowley she was sure she had put the car in park.

Hagerstown City Police were called to investigate the incident but no report was available on what their investigation revealed.

Blue-Gray Towing & Recovery removed the car from the course.
