District 1 11-12 All-Stars Losers' bracket

American 13, Conococheague 8: Tim Jacobson had two hits, including a grand slam, Michael Russ had two hits, including a homer, and Todd Jacobson had two hits for American. Gregg Minnick had two hits, including a grand slam, and Steve McKimmy also homered for Conococheague.

National 14, Hancock 1: Brittany Hyatt had two hits, including a home run, while Wes Samples, Allan Barnett and Brad Kennedy also had two hits each to lead National.

Clear Spring 14, Valley 4: Cody McCarthy had 12 strikeouts, allowed four hits and had two hits, including a home run, to help Clear Spring advance.



Grier finishes sixth

HOWIE-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Ashley Grier shot 230 over 54 holes to finish sixth in the Florida Junior Boys & Girls Invitational this weekend.

Playing the the Mission Hills Golf and Tennis Resort, Grier fired a 76 on the Las Calinas course. She then shot 79 on the longer El Campion course before returning to Las Calinas with a 75.

The winner, Tiffany Prats of Williston, Fla., shot a three-day total 222.

Shepherd signs two from Waynesboro

Shepherd College coach Wayne Riser has signed two Waynesboro graduates among his 14 recruits for the 2003 season.

Infielder Adam Caron and outfielder Eli Rock will play for the Rams next spring. Rock was a Herald-Mail All-Area second team selection as a senior. Caron received honorable mention.


Williamsport takes second

WINCHESTER, Va. - Williamsport Legion 202 finished second in the Winchester Firtecracker Tournament on Sunday. Williamsport defeated Winchester 8-6 to reach the championship game. Mike Fravel hit a three-run homer but a key error by Winchester allowed Williamsport to score three runs breaking an 5-5 tie.

In the championship game, Danville defeated Williamsport, 3-2. Danville led 3-0 before Keith Kellinger's two-run homer in the sixth inning. Marty Kaetzel's two-run home run bid in the seventh was caught at the fence. Kaetzel had two hits in the game.

Williamsport Senators 17, Thomas Johnson 0: Andy Taylor pitched a one-hitter with five strikeouts in four innings while Greg Small had three hits, Brad Turner had two hits and four RBI and Taylor had two hits in the opening round fo the Mid-Maryland Tournament.

Lennox 17, SL 7: Jremy Duffy had four hits, including a home run, and Ray Mallott had three hits for Lennox.

Jerry's Sports/Broadaxe 15, Sealy 3: Dave Foltz went 4-for-4, Wade Elwood had three hits and Steve Presgraves, Todd Ricker and Rich Hayes each homered for Jerry's. Jason Jackson had two home runs for Sealy.

Wash. Co. Co-ed Softball

D&G Liquors Mixed Nuts 31, 4-Star Athletics 4: Dawn Anderson had four RBI, and Cindy Barnhart had three hits to help lead undefeated D&G over the undefeated 4-Star Athletics. Donnie Blickenstaff went 5-for-5, including two home runs, and five RBI, Slack Myers had five RBI and Mark Price had four hits for D&G.

Stouffer's Performance & Accessories 32, Deafnet 2 27: Travis Keefer had six hits, while Dave Stouffer, Jr. had five and Kim Bennett and Angie Nibert added four to lead Stouffer's.

Hagerstown Church Softball

Tri-State Fellowship 32, Christ Lutheran 31: Blaine Smith had six hits, Todd Streett had five and Chip Barnhart and Greg Kreps each homered for Tri-State. Mike Fitzgerald hit three home runs, Simon Drew hit two and Roger Datrich had five hits for Christ Lutheran.

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Kevin Goode tossed a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts and added two three-run homers to lead Brunswick. Wayne Toms and Steve Goode had two hits, and Brad Lowe added a two-run double as the Orioles improved to 21-5, 20-5.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Matt Bragunier pitched a two-hitter to earn his fourth win for Hagerstown. Chris Black, Mike Kipe, Nate Reeser, P.J. Hiser, and Jason Rhea each had two hits each to lead the Braves (25-2, 31-4).

Hagerstown will play host to Brunswick in a league showdown today at 6 p.m. at North Hagerstown.
