Some of the items taken from a Huyetts man killed during a robbery at his home Sunday may have been sold to people at businesses in Washington County and West Virginia, Maryland State Police said.

Police said a robber stabbed and beat John Roy Ward, 87, to death at his Huyetts Lane home and then made off with cash, jewelry and tools.

"They're some personal items" the family wants to recover, Lt. Bud Frank said.

The items taken include a silver and a gold men's Timex watches, one with a large, white face with big black numbers; a woman's gold concave wedding ring; a woman's watch with a stretch band and stem setting; three gold and one silver tie bars; a size 7/8 woman's ruby ring with several individually set rubies; and a decorative tin containing coins.

Police said the robber and his accomplice may have been selling the items from a small, dark-colored car with temporary tags or a dark-colored pickup truck.

Anyone who purchased any of these items is asked to contact state police at 301-739-2101.
