  • Firecracker 5K

    WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Bob Ronfenbrenner set a course record in 15 minutes, 42 seconds in the fourth annual Summer Jubilee Firecracker 5K race on Thursday. Ronfenbrenner broke the old mark of 16:06 set by Jaime Dick in 2000.

    Tyler Newcomer, finished second in 15:51 and Chris Pereschuk, a graduate of North Hagerstown and Hagerstown Community College, was third in 16:08.

    John Doub, 45, won the master's division in 17:54.

    On the women's side, Maria Spinnler, 40, broke the course record set last year by 34 seconds, winning in 18:13. Susan Gray was second in 18:37 and Kathy Michelson was third in 20:06.

    Liberty 5K

    WINCHESTER, Va. - Justin Sweeney, 19, won the men's race in 16:52, while Mike Fitzgerald, 47, won the master's race in 18:56 at the fifth annual SunTrust Mortgage Liberty 5K.

    Conococheague 13, Hancock 2: John Combs had four hits and Zack Myers, Geo Perez and Justin Morales all had two hits for Conococheague. Ryan Baier had three hits and Chris Kearns and Josh McCusker each had two hits for Hancock.

    9-10 All-Stars

    Wash. Co. Cal Ripken 10, Valley 8: Colby Heiston had two hits for Cal Ripken. Jason kendall had a two-run triple and Jordan Thurber had two RBI for Valley.

    Valley 11, Wash. Co. Cal Ripken 9: Cody Shives had three hits and three RBI, while Ryne Willard and Jason Kendall had two hits, Kendall had two RBI and Jordan Thurber homered for Valley. Bryant Hooper had two hits and Jacob Ross had two RBI for Cal Ripken.

    Maugansville 13, National 2: Corey Morgan pitched a complete game, five-hitter and had two hits, while Brandon Glazer had three hits and four RBI for Maugansville. Nick Gross had two hits for National.

    Maugansville 7, PVAA 3: Brandon Glazer pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts for Maugansville. Sean Collette had two hits for PVAA.

    Hagerstown PONY League

    Redmen 11, F&M Bank 0: Aerik Taylor pitched a one-hitter and struck out 12 in five innings, and also hit a three-run homer for Redmen. Kevin Brashears and Adam Tosten had two hits.


  • Hub City Softball

    Dual Highway Motors/Dealer Specialties 18, JMS 16: Rich Rostek and Jack Duffey lead Dual Highway with four hits, while Todd Stocks had three hits.

    Jerry's Sports/Broadaxe 25, Merlin's 11: Dave Foltz and Steve Presgraves both went 6-for-6, while Sid Shupp, Chris Ricker, Wade Elwood, Scott Shupp and Pudge Eby each had three hits for Jerry's.
