Mail call for 7/2

July 03, 2002

"I just want to comment on the flowers on Virginia Avenue across from City Park. The person who lives there must have put a fortune and must really take care. I mean to tell you they certainly are pretty. So why don't you stop by and take a look at them. They've got Petunias, Impatiens and geraniums - all kinds of flowers and they certainly are beautiful. You have to go a long way to see anything any prettier. Thank you."

"Hi. Yes. I'm calling to congratulate the graduates of Washington County Job Development Center. I haven't seen anything in the newspaper about these kids. And they were eight fantastic children that deserve to be recognized. So, as one of their parents, I'm very disappointed that this bit of new wasn't covered by our local paper. Thank you and have a great day."

"Well, next week it will be the concert at Antietam and they'll all go down there and sing 'America the Beautiful' and this, that and the other. And as a person who mows for a homeowner along the Sharpsburg Pike, you can bet there will be plenty of trash along the road. It's unbelievable that people can go down there and do that and act patriotic and then throw their trash all over somebody else's property. I'd just as soon they didn't have it. Very disgusting. There are people in this country pretend they are patriotic and wave a flag and this, that and the other and they are about as patriotic as my left toe. And I'm gonna tell you something, when we have a big war and we have to have a draft, it will be interesting to see how many show up."

"I think the decision the court made to take the phrase 'under God' out of the Pledge is a great thing, because religion belongs in two places, the past and the dumpster. Now, all we need to do is take it off the money and the court system and abolish it altogether and this will be a nice country to live in."

"I was shopping at Wal-Mart this afternoon and this lady was on her cell phone and she run up on my foot with her basket. I turned around and gave her a look and next time it's going to be more. I wish these people would quit talking on their cell phones while they are in the grocery store. One day I went to Martin's and this lady was putting her groceries in my basket, not even knowing what she was really doing. I told her those groceries weren't mine and I didn't need them and she just looked at me."

"Yes, Mail Call. This is in response to the person who called in about the beautiful morning sky being painted by our Heavenly Father. The only thing I have to say to that is amen. If only more people would take the time to look at what our awesome God has done instead of hurry here and hurry there, what a much better world this would be, for our God is awesome."

"The gas goes up, the dump fees rise too. The cable jumped up. Can't we just wait for 7/1 to see if taxes will go up too? Why do we live here? Our monthly or weekly checks don't go up. What do we do, starve to pay taxes?"

"Yeah, Mail Call. I just read the editorial by Bob Maginnis. Why don't you publish the salaries of the people that work at CRS - everybody's salaries - from the chief to Mr. Nigh to everybody. Publish the salaries. And let's find out. Where is the volunteerism?"

"Hi. I am just so mad at Antietam Cable. I'm a senior citizen and they keep going up and going up. I don't have anything other than cable and it's going to be $30 some dollars. I already pay $30.52 and now it's going to be a couple dollars more. Pretty soon, I'm not going to have any money to eat on because I want to watch television. Even medicine costs. So, let's get going and give us some free. I don't even like games or anything like that. Thank you."

"This is in response to the Pledge of Allegiance. I just think it is the most ludicrous thing that I have ever heard. People just thinking that they can kick God around. They all needed Him after 9/11, now all of a sudden it's all forgotten. Maybe next time He won't hear our pleas. I think everyone should just praise Him and know that He is our God and that He is the master and creator of this earth."

"This is to all our nosy neighbors out there. If the neighbors would mind their own business, we would not be fighting so much. Why can't we just get along and act like grown-up people should act. If you are too nosy or you are mad at yourself, don't take it out on everyone else. Be true to everyone and all of us just get along."

"Yeah, someone called in about the city council knocking down buildings and said there's plenty of parking but nothing to go to. You're right. And when a business leaves the city, the city officials just say 'Oh, well, things turn out.' That's 'cause they all live in the suburbs and not downtown. I wish some of them would move downtown."
