Washington County Board of Education member Doris J. Nipps voted against a list of staff changes approved by the board on Tuesday.

The board voted 5-1 to approve the eight staff changes, which included accepting the resignation of former Smithsburg High School Assistant Principal Ralph Kline, and appointing Thomas R. Shepherd to that position.

"There is a personnel change on this (list) I didn't agree with," Nipps said. She refused to say which staff change she disagreed with.

Also during the Tuesday board meeting, the board voted 6-0 to approve a separate list of almost 50 staff changes, many of which moved teachers from one school to another.
