Pride days to be held July 20, 21

SMITHSBURG - The ninth annual Smithsburg Pride Days celebration will be July 20 and 21.

Special events for July 20 begin with a pancake, egg and sausage breakfast at the community fire house. The Bill Beckwith Memorial 5K & Fun Run, sponsored by the Smithsburg High School cross country team, begins at 8:30 a.m. The Smithsburg Pride Days Tennis Tournament will begin at 10 a.m. at the Smithsburg High School tennis courts.

A parade will advance along Water Street and Bradbury Avenue from Fil-Tec to the tennis courts beginning at 11 a.m.

Craft and food vendors will be set up along Maple Avenue and Railroad Lane, which will be blocked off for the event.

Children's games and activities will be on the grounds of St. Anne's Church, and a Civil War living history display and a K-9 demonstration also will be there.


An exhibit by local artists and craftspeople will be set up at Trinity Lutheran Chapel, and a World War I living history display will be in Veterans Park.

Smithsburg Emergency Medical Service will conduct blood pressure screenings, and a model railroad display will be set up on the second floor of Smithsburg Town Hall.

An exhibit of school memorabilia will be in the Smithsburg Historical Society's Heritage Room.

Saturday's events will conclude with a street dance and Karaoke on Railroad Lane from 7:30-11:30 p.m.

Activities on July 21 begin with a community worship service on the grounds of St. Anne's Church at 8 a.m. A car and truck show will be on the carnival grounds behind the Smithsburg Fire Department from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Registration is being taken for the 5K & Fun Run. Pre-registration for the 5K run is $15 and fun run pre-registration is $8. After Saturday, registration will be $18 for the 5K and $10 for the fun run.

T-shirts are available to all participants who pre-register for the run, and a limited number of T-shirts will be available for those who register after Saturday.
