Harris W. Oden

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Harris William "Bill" Oden, 69, of Harpers Ferry, died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.

Born April 3, 1933, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late William Henry and Nellie Mae Ott Oden.

He retired after 25 years of service with the William A. Hazel Construction Co., Chantilly, Va.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He attended St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Harpers Ferry.

He is survived by his companion, Pauline Adams of Ranson; one sister, Pauline Oden Ott of Harpers Ferry; and four brothers, Merle E. Oden of Charles Town, W.Va., and Thomas D. Oden, Philip Oden and Samuel M. Oden, all of Harpers Ferry.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Erma Loudelle Ott and infant sister, Ruby Mae Oden.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. The Rev. James Boyce will officiate. Burial will be in St. Andrews on the Mount Cemetery, Harpers Ferry.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Warren L. Propst

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Warren Leo Propst, 64, of 4500 Willow Tree Drive, died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.

Born Oct. 4, 1937, in Brandywine, W.Va., he was the son of the late Ember and Etha Pittsbarger Propst.

He was employed as retail manager for the former McCrory's Department Store, Frederick.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Diane Humbertson Propst; two daughters, Angela R. Propst of Frederick, and Krista L. Long of Middletown; two brothers, Garland Propst of Franklin, W.Va., and Sheldon Propst of Bridgewater, Va.; five sisters, Agnes Sanchez of San Clemente, Calif., Elga Gaylord of Bridgewater, Lee Hopkins of Weyers Cave, Va., Maxine Miller of Harrisonburg, Va., and Ruby Bolyard of Augusta, Ga.; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Kermit Propst.

Services will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, Frederick. The Rev. Donald L. Turley will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




George A. Yost

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - George Alton Yost, 62, of Berkeley Springs, died Monday, July 1, 2002, at his home.

Born March 15, 1940, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Guy Raymond and Sarah Beatrice Palmer Yost.

He attended Mt. Garfield School, Berkeley Springs.

He worked on the grounds of the golf course at Cacapon State Park and also helped in the construction of the golf course. He worked at various jobs in recent years.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He is survived by four sisters, Juanita Snyder of Lakeland, Fla., Naomi Newman of Warfordsburg, Pa., S. Darlene Vessella of Bunker Hill, W.Va., and Phyllis Kyne of Martinsburg, W.Va.; two brothers, Edward Yost of Warfordsburg, and Charles Yost of Berkeley Springs; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Chlorous Merchant; and four brothers, Raymond G. Yost, Layton R. Yost, Leslie W. Yost and Joseph E. Yost.

Services will be Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs. Pastor William C. Swope will officiate. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open after 10 a.m. for the convenience of friends.

Keith A. Schaeffer

CASCADE - Keith A. Schaeffer, 16, of Water Company Road, died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at noon at St. Mary's Cemetery, Silver Run, Md. The Rev. Richard Scott will officiate.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg; and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon at St. Mary's United Church of Christ, Silver Run.

Mary J. Mumma

Mary Jane Mumma, 87, of 10116 Sharpsburg Pike, Hagerstown, and formerly of Halfway, died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born June 19, 1915, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Sanford Toby and Margie Estella Sprecher Gossard.

Her husband, Samuel Calvin Mumma Sr., died in 1996.

She was a 1933 graduate of Williamsport High School.

She was employed at Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, retiring in 1978.

She was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church in Williamsport, where she participated in the New Beginnings Sunday Class and the Circle of Hope Missionary Society, and was a former Sunday school teacher.
