Clyde R. Shipe

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Clyde Raymond "Ray" Shipe, 87, of Shepherdstown, died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at City Hospital.

Born March 27, 1915, in Detrick, Va., he was the son of the late George and Valley Whittington Shipe.

He retired from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

He was a member of Shepherdstown Fire Department and was a former Shepherdstown police officer. He also helped raise a number of foster children over the years.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Gladys Shipe; one son, J. Scott Shipe of Hagerstown; three daughters, Shirley Simpson of Shepherdstown, Nancy Folkedahl of Watsonville, Calif., and Carolyn Gaffney of Lincolnton, N.C.; one foster daughter, Susan Shreve of Hedgesville, W.Va.; three sisters, Kathryn Shipe of Owings Mills, Md., and Ruth Turlington and Helen Fitchett, both of Chincoteague, Va.; 10 grandchildren; one foster grandchild; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy French, Phyllis Shipe and Georgiana Shipe.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, W.Va. The Rev. Darell Gentry and J. Fred Davis will officiate. Entombment will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Shepherdstown Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box F, Shepherdstown, WV 25443.




Raymond J. Smith

CHEWSVILLE - Raymond Jacob Smith, 77, of Chewsville, died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at Julia Manor Health Care Center, Hagerstown.

Born June 17, 1925, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Roy C. and Emma H. Cline Smith.

He is survived by one sister, Hazel E. Smith of Boonsboro; one brother, Charles J. Smith of Chewsville; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Lester W. Smith, Robert M. Smith, Reuben R. Smith and Ralph O. Smith.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. Pastor Jonathan D. Laye will officiate. Burial will be in Ringgold Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.




Wayne C. Zeger

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Wayne C. Zeger, 85, of 1087 Westgate Drive, and formerly of Mercersburg, Pa., and Washington, died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at his home.

Born July 2, 1916, in Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late Irvin C. and Carrie B. Culler Zeger.

He was a 1934 graduate of Mercersburg High School; and a graduate of Thompson Business School, York, Pa., and Lasalle Extension University, Chicago.

He was an accountant and employed by Read Machinery Co., and York Safe and Lock Co. Spec. Ordinance Plant, York. He was employed by the federal government during World War II as cost accountant for the Office of Price Administration. He retired in 1978 from Depot Systems, then helped his wife in the business of antique collecting and selling.

He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ.

He was a member of BPOE 600 of Chambersburg, Eagles Club Inc. of Waynesboro, Pa., and Mall Walkers Club.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Ott Zeger, whom he married March 28, 1937; two sons, Stanley N. Zeger and Elden Leroy Zeger, both of Chambersburg; one daughter, Odetta Jean McConnell of Dumfries, Va.; four grandchildren; and a half-sister, Doris Horton of Chambersburg.

He was preceded in death by one son, Wayne O. Zeger.

Memorial services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ. The Revs. Stephen Hoffman and Jeffrey Roth will officiate.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ, 1811 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, PA 17201; or Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Willie E. Hahn

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Willie Eugene Hahn, 84, of 9 E. F St., died Friday, June 28, 2002, at Northampton Manor Nursing Home, Frederick, Md.

Born March 22, 1918, in Brunswick, he was the son of the late Harry M. and Rena R. Woods Hahn.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elva Mary Belle Main Hahn.

He retired from the B&O Railroad in 1979, where he was a carman.

He is survived by two daughters, Dee Ette Crutchley of Brunswick, and Joyce Ann Kanehr of Oregon; five grandchildren, Stacy Hahn of North Carolina, Jason Hahn of South Carolina, Michelle Kanehr and Derick Kanehr, both of Oregon, and Guy Eugene Crutchley of Brunswick; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Brent Eugene Hahn.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by John T. Williams Funeral Home, Brunswick.




Nichalas C. King

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Nichalas Cole King, 6 weeks old, of 690 Heintzelman Ave., died Friday, June 28, 2002, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born May 11, 2002, in Chambersburg, he was the son of Melissa K. King.
