Zola M. Hoffman

QUINCY, Pa. - Zola M. Lanehart Hoffman, 104, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home, formerly of 30 W. Baltimore St., in Greencastle, Pa., died Friday, June 28, 2002, at the nursing home.

Born May 6, 1898, in Needmore, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John E. and Carrie Myers Lanehart.

Her husband, Upton G. Hoffman, died June 22, 1973.

She was a homemaker.

She was the oldest member of First United Methodist Church of Greencastle.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Greencastle Sportsman Association.

She is survived by two sons, Harold M. Hoffman of Greencastle and John A. Hoffman of Middletown, Pa.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a step-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by a son, Max F. Hoffman, in 1995; a grandson; two sisters; and two brothers.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home in Greencastle. Pastor Stacy Crawford will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.

There will be no public viewing, but the family will receive friends Tuesday at the funeral home one hour prior to services.

Elsie J. Stitely

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Elsie J. Stitely, 74, of 904 Mount Cydonia Road, died Friday, June 28, 2002, at her daughter's home at 1720 Coldsmith Road, Shippensburg, Pa.

Born May 26, 1928, in Elkins, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Willard E. and Elsie J. Shifflett.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd E. Stitely.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters, Laura Lane of Shippensburg and Barbara Thomas of Chambersburg, Pa.; three sons, Melvin L. Gilbert, William K. Gilbert Jr. and Michael Childs, all of Fayetteville; a sister, Virginia M. Shaffer of Fayetteville; her companion, Harold Miner; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary L. Hoover and Ella Mae Shifflett, and a brother, Leroy Shifflett.

Services will be Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Rev. George S. Mouer Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Grindstone Hill Cemetery, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Charlotte V. Cleland

Charlotte Virginia Cleland, 87, of Loyalton Assisted Living, 20009 Rosebank Way, Hagerstown and formerly of 11 W. Baltimore St., died Friday, June 28, 2002, at Loyalton.

Born April 29, 1915, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Kennie and Carrie Rankin Moon.

She was a member of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church and Comrades Sunday School Class.

She is survived by a daughter, Natalie P. Cleveland of Fairfax, Va.; a son, Robert W. Cleland Jr. of Ellicott City, Md.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sadie Widmyer and Alma Miller, and three brothers, John V. Moon, Leslie Moon and Charles K. Grove.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. Hayden L. Sparks will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joann L. Kirby

WILLIAMSPORT - Joann L. Kirby, 66, of Williamsport, died Friday, June 28, 2002, at her home.

She was born Dec. 25, 1935.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
