Blowout sends Suns on to N.J.

June 27, 2002

SALISBURY, Md. - Hagerstown ended a three-game series with Delmarva that was no vacation at the beach for the Suns.

The Shorebirds kicked sand in the Suns' collective faces on Wednesday as Chipper Johnson, Kevin Webster and Alex Gordon combined to drive in 10 runs to wash away the Suns with a 16-1 tidal wave.

The loss was the fourth straight for the Suns (1-6, 35-42), who helped the destruction with four errors - three by third baseman Julian Benavidez - that accounted for five unearned runs.

Delmarva (4-3) scored four runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings.

Hagerstown allowed the first 15 runs before breaking through for its only score in the eighth. Keith Anderson doubled and scored when pinch-hitter Francisco D'Jesus reached on a dropped fly to right by Gordon.

Treadway joined the Suns and Kyle Gross came off the disabled list as starters Ryan Hannaman and Brian Burres were placed on the disabled list.
