Mail Call for 6/25

"I saw in Sunday's paper where there is a shortage of day care providers in the Tri-State area. It's no wonder, you have to go through quite a bit of junk to get your license. After you get your license, which is no more than a piece of paper; a criminal could get a license and watch your children, once you get them, nobody wants to pay you what it's really worth to take care of the children, plus if a child falls and hurts him/herself, then you are under suspicion of being an abuser or not properly watching the children. There is a lot at risk for being a day care provider, that's why there aren't enough to go around."

"Pet owners should make sure they give their pets a lot of water during this heat streak this week. And please don't leave your pets outside tied to a chain all day in this heat. They feel the heat just like we do and can suffer if left out in the sun all day."

"Rocky's Pizza in the Old Orchard Shopping Center is the place to go. I lost my wallet in there and within an hour, I had a phone call from Tony, telling me he found it. He is an honest person. Thanks a million, Tony."

"I don't understand tortilla chips. If you try to dip them holding the flat end, you can't scoop with the point to get any dip, but if you hold it by the pointy end to scoop with the flat side, it just breaks because the pointy end is too narrow to support the weight of the dip. I wonder why companies make them this way?"

"To the person not having fun at Little League games. Let me tell you a little secret, the kids are the ones who are supposed to have the fun. You are supposed to go to enjoy the game."

"Can anyone tell me when the fireworks at Long Meadow are? For that matter, can anyone tell me when any fireworks are going to be held. I like to take my family. Also, I've noticed a few temporary fireworks displays around town. There's one in the Kmart parking lot and I saw another one somewhere else in the county. Are they selling stuff that we can use?"

"For the folks who bought a green can opener at a yard sale on Little Antietam Road. Stop by sometime, I found the magnet that goes with that."

"Mr. Fearnow is not the only one whose day was ruined because of the words of that announcer. He as well as you, blame the neighborhood for what happened down at the Fairgrounds, but there is no way of showing that the children of the neighborhood are in any way responsible for what happened at the Fairgrounds. Councilwoman Nigh, who lives in that area, tried very hard to get surveillance cameras so one could be sure who was doing what down there. But to come out and say this is a bad neighborhood and list all the things, it is not true. There is no proof that the neighborhood is what is the cause of the problems at the Fairgrounds."

"It was sad to read about St. Lous Cardinals pitcher Darryl Kile. You just don't know from one day to the next. Here you have a 33-year-old athlete passing away in the prime of his life and you just don't think something like this can happen. I watched him pitch a couple of times and he was a big, strapping guy who looked like he could throw the ball through a brick wall. And yet, he was as vulnerable as the rest of us. It just goes to show you that you never know when your time is going to come."

"The railroad crossing at Shawley's isn't half as bad as the one on Rench Road, they should fix that one first. If you don't like the road on Lappans Crossroad, then stop driving on it. We are sick and tired of you people going 50 in a 40 mile per hour zone. If you don't like our roads, then stay off of them."

"Does anyone have any information on the Frog Eye Mud Bog coming up in Brunswick? Call Mail Call with some information or a phone number."

"My husband and I would like to thank the nice man who bought our 6-year-old daughter a very large soft drink at the Hagerstown Suns game on Saturday night. It was a father/daughter night out and my husband sent her to check on the price for popcorn and wanted her to have the correct amount to purchase the item and yes she had the popcorn, too."
