June 26, 2002

LEETOWN, W.Va. - A fire Tuesday afternoon caused about $45,000 damage to a house along Leetown Road in Jefferson County, W.Va., a fire official said.

The fire, which was reported at about 2:06 p.m., started on a back porch of the two-story house, Independent Fire Co. Chief Ed Smith said.

The fire spread into a kitchen and the second floor of the house, Smith said.

The cause is under investigation, Smith said.

The owner of the house, Teresa Bennett, was not home at the time, Smith said.
