Shepherd to induct five & Area roundup

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - The Shepherd Athletic Hall of Fame will induct five members this fall when the annual induction banquet takes place on Friday, Nov. 8 as part of the Hall of Fame Weekend.

Bill Adams, a 1987 graduate of Martinsburg High School, was a four-year running back for the Rams in 1988, 1991-93. He completed his career as the all-time leading rusher in WVIAC and Shepherd history with 4,367 yards. Adams was also honored as being a two-time All-American.

Others to be inducted are Brooks Bennett (Baltimore), Bob Terpening (Carmel, Ind.), Harry Barker (Charles Town, W.Va.), and Roger Parker (Shepherdstown, W.Va).

Bennett was a linebacker for Shepherd from 1989-92, Terpening was a four-year defensive end for the Rams from 1960-63, and also lettered a year in track & field, Barker played both baseball and basketball for the Rams from 1947-49, and Parker was a men's and women's tennis coach at Shepherd.

The Athletic Hall of Fame banquet will be held in the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Shepherdstown. The evening will begin with a social hour at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and the induction ceremony at 7.

    Goodwill 9, Eagles 7: Brad Hineman had two hits, and Mike Campbell homered for Goodwill. Bingie Bingaman had three hits for Eagles, while Andy May and Charlie Kline each added two.

    West End Little League

    Coca-Cola 5, VFW 4: Kyle Beers had two hits, and Henry Fitzgerald homered to lead Coca-Cola in Game 1 of the league championship. Jodi McElroy hit a home run, while Casey Shifler and Dustin Smith had two hits ech for VFW.

    Washington County Girls Softball

    High School Division

    Aladdin Awards 21, Long Meadow Rotary 8: Misty Marker had three hits, including a home run, while Lisa Wetzel and Clorissa Chaney each had two hits and Christina Embly homered for Alladin. Lindsey Grove led Long Meadow with three hits.

    Maugansville Little League

    Burkholder's 16, Ruritan 11: Craig Martin had four hits and six RBI, Hamilton Stamper had three hits and Kyle Walters, Shane Wollaston and Brandon Beall all had two hits for Burkholder's. Josh Constable had three hits for Ruritan.

    Halfway Little League

    Valley Storage Bins 7, Hoffman Auto 3: Bradley Kretzer homered for and Kevin Botts had two hits as Valley won the league title. Aaron Miles had two hits for Hoffman.

    4-Star Athletic Complex 20, Fire Protection 7: Dave Brooks had four hits and Lori Brooks added two to lead 4-Star.

    D&G Liquors Mixed Nuts 22, Deafnet 1: Cindy Barnhart and Dave Myers had four hits each, while Norma Burcker added three, and Mike Green homered twice for D&G. Myers also knocked in nine. Missy Carlson led Deafnet with three hits.

    Hagerstown Area Church Softball

    Gateway 24, Ringgold 8: Tim Hose, Frank Yost and Jeff Burnett had three hits each to lead Gateway.

    Virginia Avenue 30, Grace 16: Cliff Miles and Jeff Mowen had four hits for Virginia. Mike Mowen homered for Grace.

    Crossroads 17, West End Chapel 9: Dave Davis homered and Dean Williams and Mike Shifler had four hits to lead Crossroads. Matt Camden and Gary Reeder had three hits.

    Hub City Softball

    Miller Lite/Stadium Grill 12, JMS/Broadaxe 11: Eric Andrews had three home runs, Steve Barrett had four hits, while Chris Weaver and Andy Wyand each had three hits for Miller Lite/Stadium Grill.

    Sely Mattress 22, South End 10: Toby Hoffman and Jason Jackson had five hits while Chris Hoffman had three hits, including a homer, for Sely.

    Halfway Morning League

    Bud Light 23-15, ALM Embroidery 7-5: Rick Ricker and Danny Braithwaite each had five hits, Dave Foltz had four and Jeff Beatty, Shawn Reed and Terry Harnish each added three to lead Bud Light. Ricker and Beatty also homered in one game. Sean Hutzel and Steve Bishop each had three hits while Rick Ricker and Scott Ricker each homered.

    MCIH 4-12 27, Tony's Pizza 11: Dan Bowers and Lew Blenard had five hits, Hoyt Chaney, D. Wilhelm and Stev Thomas had four hits for MCIH.

    On Sunday, Greg Small had a home run four RBI, Will Roney had two hits, including a homer, Ben Jordan had three hits and Andy Taylor had two hits in the first game for Williamsport. Jordan and Brad Turner each had three hits while Roney and Justin Baylor had two hits each in the second game for Williamsport (19-6).
