FREDERICK, Md. - Ryan Wingerd tossed a two-hitter with six strikeouts in Game 1 as Post 211 swept Post 11 4-0 and 7-6 in a Western Maryland District doubleheader on Saturday.

Matt Johnson went 3-for-4 and Matt Tedrick added two hits in the first game for Funkstown (16-2, 7-2).

In Game 2, Gerry Spessard knocked in the winning run in the ninth for Funkstown. Spessard, Johnson, Matt Allen and Aaron Showe had two hits.

Redmen 11, Lions 6: Kyle Cunningham had two hits, including a grand slam, as Redmen won the league championship. Derrick Munro led Lions with three hits.

Conococheague Minor League

Neikirk's 9, Yankees 8: Devon Byrd had three hits and Matt Kelly had two hits to lead Neikirk's. Zach Zeger had four hits for the Yankees, Tyler Palladino had three hits and Brandon Rowland and Kevin Wyks had two hits.

Hagerstown Colt League

Goodwill 15, Elks 2: Adam Wray and Brad Hineman each had two hits, including a home run for Hineman, to lead Goodwill.

Halfway Little League

Hoffman Auto 4, Gibney's 3: Andrew Duff had three hits and Kyle Orndorff had two hits as Hoffman Auto clinched the second-half title.

Hoffman Auto 13, Valley Storage 6: Zach Malphurs struck out 12 batters while Andrew Duff and Kyle Orndorff had three hits and Travis Wilson and Jake Dembeck had two hits each for Hoffman in the first game of the championship series. Danny Spickler and Austin Jones had two hits each for Valley Storage.

Halfway Minor League

Virginia Avenue Shell 19, UAW 9: Dominic Turano had two hits, as Virginia Avenue Shell captured the league championship.

Maugansville Little League

Ruritan 15, Maugans Oil 2: Joshua Constable threw a two-hitter and also had two hits to lead Ruritan. Heath Cooper had two hits and two RBI and Zachary Sandonato also had two hits in the win.

National Minor League

W. Md. Sportsmen 17, AMVETS 0: Brittany Sisler had three hits, Jeff Jacobson and Brennen Przywieczerski had two hits and Terrance Richardson homered for Sportsmen.

Wash. Co. Babe Ruth League

Smithsburg Sports World 11, Frederick #1 4: Brian Harshman homered to lead Smithsburg, while Brian Haupt, Ben Murtz, Matt Reichert, and Chad Rupert each added two hits. John Sincky had two hits for Frederick 1.

F&M Bank 14, Frederick #2 12: Chad Rupert, Josh Baker and Adam Mowbray had two hits to lead F&M. Daniel Forrest also had two hits including a triple, while Matt Reichert and Brad Colye had three hits each for the winners. Colye also homered.


Funkstown 16-10, Thomas Johnson 1-0,/b>

Nathan Steelman improved to 7-0 and had two hits as Drew Crawford, Wayne Rumbaugh, and Jeremy McAfee each had two hits for Funkstown in Game 1 of a doubleheader sweep.

In Game 2, Philip Powell hit a three-run home run as Jeff Mills added another homer for Funkstown. Kyle Robinson, Mills and Patrick Hutzler all had two hits for Funkstown (25-4, 17-1) as it clinched the Mid-Maryland League.


Tavern Softball League

New Delmar Inn 24, Allied Bail Bonds 11: Ryan Romberger went 4-for-4 with a home run and Ed Blickenstaff added three hits for Delmar Inn.
