Shirley M. Sheeley

SMITHSBURG - Shirley May Sheeley, 66, of 12106 Wolfsville Road, died Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at her home.

Born Nov. 23, 1935, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of Woodrow Walter and Tressie Monn Bryan of Waynesboro.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester C. "Sunny" Sheeley Sr., in 1993.

She was a member of Blue Rock United Brethren Church in Tomstown, Pa.; and St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Smithsburg.

She was a member of Moose Ladies Auxiliary 1191 of Waynesboro.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by one daughter, Laura A. Likely of Hagerstown; four sons, Melvin E. Sheeley and Rick A. Bryan, both of Waynesboro, John J. Sheeley of Greencastle, Pa. and Chester C. Sheeley Jr. of Smithsburg; two sisters, Judy Sheffler and Faye Wishard, both of Waynesboro; two brothers, Jim Bryan of Waynesboro and Barry Bryan of Hanover, Pa.; and 11 grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. Donald L. Bender will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Quincy Township, Pa.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Kenneth L. Wilt

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Kenneth Lee Wilt, 76, of 862 Tuscawilla Hills, died Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.

Born April 18, 1926, in Millville, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles W. and Nettie Oden Wilt.

He formerly owned and operated Wilt's Pure Oil in Charles Town, and retired from Advanced Security in Ranson, W.Va.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

He was a Protestant.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Wilt; three sons, Dan Dopson of Hagerstown, Steve Dopson of Martinsburg, W.Va. and Mike Dopson of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; two sisters, Doris Gay of Martinsburg and Joann Shaff of Gapland; two brothers, Floyd Wilt of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va. and Matthew Wilt of Harpers Ferry; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Harold McClay and Douglas Fraim will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Lutheran Cemetery, Bolivar, W.Va.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gary M. Virts

KNOXVILLE, Md. - Gary Marlin Virts, 67, of 744 Jefferson Pike, died Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital.

Born July 11, 1934, in Brunswick, Md., he was the son of the late Orion Jacob and Madeline Moler Virts.

He retired as a civil engineer after 30 years at the Division of Public Works in Frederick County, Md.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Knoxville. He was a member, and assisted in starting Real Life Community Church in Hagerstown, and was a member of the choir.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Nancy Shriver Virts; two daughters, Chris Chevalier of Hagerstown and Susan Miller of Jefferson, Md.; one sister, L. Duane Smith of Ellicott City, Md.; four grandchildren; one aunt; two nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Noel O. Virts.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church, Knoxville. The Rev. Boyd Frank and Jack Marcomy will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Lovettsville, Va.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at John T. Williams Funeral Home, Brunswick, which will open at 9 a.m.

Dorothy E. Lewis

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Dorothy Elizabeth Lewis, 90, of Harpers Ferry, died Sunday, April 28, 2002, at Homeward at Crumland Farms in Frederick, Md.

Born Jan. 11, 1912, in Los Angeles, she was the daughter of the late Lewis R. and Mabel Mecorney Lanckton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph H. Lewis.

She was a member of Camp Hill-Wesley United Methodist Church, Harpers Ferry.

She was a member of Harpers Ferry Women's Club; and P.E.O. Sisterhood of Washington, D.C.

She is survived by one daughter, Mary L. Corrigan of Arlington, Va.; one son, Steven H. Lewis of Winchester, Mass.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Camp Hill Wesley United Methodist Church, Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Douglas Fraim will officiate.

Goldie C. Covalt

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Goldie Catherine Palmer Covalt, 88, formerly of Great Cove Road and Pine Ridge Assisted Living, died Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at Fulton County Medical Center in McConnellsburg, Pa.

Born Dec. 13, 1913, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late Jobe and Bertha Shaw Hill.
