Funkstown rallies for non-district win

FUNKSTOWN - Gerry Spessard had two hits and four RBI and Danny Fowler had two hits, including a home run, to lead Funkstown Post 211 to a 9-4 win over Charles Town in an American Legion baseball game on Tuesday.

David Miner and Cole Bellon combined on a four-hitter for Funkstown (14-2).

American Little League

Funkstown Legion 15, Elks 0: Todd Jacobson and Demetrius Stubbs combined for a one-hitter and Tim Jacobson had two hits, including a home run, for Funkstown Legion.


FOP 14, Elks 4: Justin Myers had three hits and Joe Schildt had two hits for FOP.

Clear Spring Little League

Athletics 4, Orioles 2: Danny Reed had 14 strikeouts as the Athletics completed a perfect season. Cody McCarthy had two hits, including a home run, and struck out 11 in the loss for the Orioles.

Clear Spring Minor League

Pirates 16, Orioles 6: Nick Hill and Zach Jordan each had two hits for the Pirates.

Cubs 12, Blue Jays 4: Brandon Schildtknecht and Jacob Fitz each had three hits and Brandon Murphy had two for the Cubs. Tyler Forrest had two hits for the Blue Jays.

Conococheague Little League

Redmen 8, Lions 4: Kyle Cunningham threw a four-hitter with seven strikeouts, Dustin Boward and Greg Minnick each had three hits, while Cunningham, Maclane Hardy and Steve Siler each had two for Redmen. Brandon Harrell and Colby McCauley each had two hits for Lions.

Conococheague Minor League

Yankees 14, Valley Storage 9: Zach Zeger went 3-for-3, including an inside-the-park home run, while Taylor Leonard, while D.J. Kinna and Brandon Greene combined for a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts for the Yankees.

Federal Little League

Rotary 16, American Legion 0: Kyle Hoffman and Matt Amalfitano combined on a no-hitter and struck out 15 to lead Rotary to a perfect season and the league championship. Colin McWilliams had four hits, Hoffman and Amalfitano had three hits each and Matt South had two hits.

Halfway Minor League

Virginia Avenue Shell 16, UAW 7: Ethan Coblentz and Evan Coblentz combined for 10 strikeouts for Virginia Avenue Shell. Cody Hadley had two hits for UAW.

Hagerstown Colt League

Goodwill 4, Henson 1: Jeff Garvin threw a two-hitter and Adam Wray had two hits for Goodwill.

Williamsport Eagles 18, Goodwill 13: Dustin Bachtell and Steve Pizone had three hits and Ronnie May had two hits to lead Eagles. Mike Campbell had three hits, including a grand slam, and Jeff Garvin also had three hits for Goodwill.

Hagerstown PONY League

Elks 7, UAW 5: Matt Fortese, Jeremy Martin and Scott Myers each had two hits and Fortese homered to lead Elks. Luke Lichtenberg had two hits for UAW.

UAW 6, Goodwill 2: David Richards threw a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts and Chad Bikle had two hits for UAW. Ryan Chaney had two hits for Goodwill.

Maugansville Little League

Ruritan 7, Brewer's Saab 2: Cory Forsyth and Kirkland Jones combined on a five-hitter. Josh Constable had two hits, including a home run, and four RBI and Keith Cooper added two hits for the winners.

National Little League

Long Meadow Exxon 20, FOP 3: James Jordan had three hits, Hunter Phillips had two hits and Seth Younker homered for Long Meadow Exxon. Patrick Kemmerer had two hits for FOP.

National Minor League

Elks 15, AMVETS 1: Michael Cole had three hits and three RBI and June Allen had two hits, including a home run, to lead Elks. Desiree Giffin, Ben Peterson, Jordan Lantz and Preston Parrish had two RBI and Brayden Jones struck out 10 in the win.

South Mountain Little League

Post 10 7, Thompson Gas 2: Adam Chambers went 3-for-3, John Slick had two hits and Chambers and Brad Rohrer combined for 13 strikeouts as Post 10 clinched the league title. Ryan Lewis had two hits and struck out nine for Thompson Gas.

Valley Little League

SMRG 10, FOP 0: Stephen Grossman struck out eight in a no-hitter and Andrew Dinterman had two hits and five RBI to lead SMRG. Jordan Thurber and Thomas Port also had two hits.

Valley Minor League

Norm Scott Drywall 28, Hampton Inn 17: Michael Baer had three RBI and Dustin Doggett drove in two to lead Norm Scott. Cory Kerr homered twice and finished with seven RBI for Hampton Inn.


Halfway Morning League

Tony's Pizza 30, MCI 4/12 2: Adam Whitaker, Jeff Foltz and Jamie Moats all hit for the cycle and Greg Petty homered to lead Tony's.

Hagerstown Church Softball

Virginia Avenue 28, St. Mark's 9: Jason Gladhill and Mike Pickerall each had five hits and John Merrbaugh had four for Virginia Avenue.

St. James 30, New Life 18: Alan Moore had six hits, including a home run, while Lloyd Kelly and Mike Hull each added four hits for St. James.

Otterbein 16, Grace 15: Jay Johnson had four hits and Larry Wisherd had three for Otterbein.
