Students place in statewide PTA Reflections competition

Karen Lucas and B. Marie Byers, PTA Reflections chairpersons for Washington County, recently announced the names of Washington County students who placed in the statewide PTA Reflections Competition and they are gearing up for next year's competition.

"Next year's theme is 'Signs of Courage,' " Lucas said. "Students can interpret that theme in a variety of contexts, including photography, visual arts, literature, musical composition or interpretive dance."

Organizers plan to kick off the competition in September, but students can get started over the summer, Lucas said.

This year's winners who received state recognition include the following:

-- Nat Philip, Paramount Elementary School - Literature Outstanding Interpretation, pre-K through second grade.

-- David Wilson, Paramount Elementary School - Music Outstanding Interpretation, third through fifth grade.

-- Stacie Plummer, Maria Tiches, Jordan Kline and Brittany Young, Smithsburg Middle School - Dance Award of Excellence, sixth through eighth grade.

-- Peter Lang, Eastern Elementary School - Photography Award of Excellence, pre-K through second grade.


-- Rebekah Bear, Paramount Elementary School - Music Award of Merit, third through fifth grade.

-- Mara Dennis, Paramount Elementary School - Photography Award of Merit, pre-K through second grade.

-- Liza Dennis, Paramount Elementary - Visual Arts Award of Merit, pre-K through 2nd grade.
