Hagerstown man facing drug charges


A search of an apartment in the 600 block of South Potomac Street Wednesday night resulted in the arrest of a Hagerstown man on drug charges.

Hagerstown City Police cooperated with the street crimes unit in charging Lester Leroy Ernde with one count each of distribution of illegal drugs, possession with intent to distribute illegal drugs, conspiracy to distribute illegal drugs, possession of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia, police said.

The raid on Apt. 2 at 655 S. Potomac St. around 9:30 p.m. came as a result of numerous citizen complaints, police said. An investigation was launched, leading to Wednesday's charges.

Ernde, 41, was being held on $28,000 bond Thursday night at the Washington County Detention Center, jail officials said.




Residents hurt in crash remain hospitalized


INDIAN SPRINGS - Two occupants of a 1985 Ford truck that ran into a tree in the 13200 block of Pecktonville Road around 8:15 p.m. last Sunday remained hospitalized Thursday at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Robert Kenneth Bloyer, 42, of 33 E. Salisbury St., Williamsport, was listed in critical condition, and Denise Marie Russell, 33, of the same address, was listed in serious condition, a hospital spokeswoman said Thursday.

Both were flown by Maryland State Police medevac helicopters to Baltimore as was the driver, William Eugene Harnish, 26, of 14144 Fairview Road, Clear Spring. Harnish was discharged after treatment, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Passenger Dana Ann Whitmore, 20, of 709 Washington Ave., was treated at Washington County Hospital and released, a spokeswoman there said Thursday.

Deputy 1st Class Brad Creek's investigation of the accident was continuing.




Deputies hurt in scuffle with alleged shoplifter


FREDERICK, Md. - Two Frederick County Sheriff's deputies were injured Thursday afternoon during a struggle with an alleged shoplifter at Sam's Club on Buckeystown Pike.

Deputies 1st Class Michael Ochoa and William Folden were both treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital and released shortly after the 2:55 p.m. incident.

Shiraki Kioshi Ellis, 42, of Capitol Heights, Md., was charged with three counts of assault, and one count each of felony theft, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

He also was taken to the hospital for treatment of cuts, deputies said.

He was awaiting an appearance before a bond commissioner Thursday night.




Prescription, old coins stolen from local home


A prescription for $200 worth of OxyContin and $800 in old coins were reported stolen Wednesday from a home in the 12000 block of Heather Drive, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

The damage to the home's door was estimated at $200, police said.




Drywall materials worth $300 stolen


Twenty rolls of joint tape and 17 5-gallon buckets of joint compound were reported stolen Thursday morning from the 21600 block of Mount Aetna Road, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

The drywall materials are worth at least $300, police said.
