June 05, 2002

ALBANY, Ga. - Branden Florence homered and drove in five runs to lead the Hagerstown Suns to a rain-shortened 9-0 win over the South Georgia Waves on Tuesday.

Anthony Pannone (5-3) got the win with five innings of two-hit baseball while striking out three. The game was called after the Suns batted in the top of the sixth.

Florence got Hagerstown (29-30) going in the top of the first with an RBI single off Waves starter Felix Arellan (1-1). Another run scored on a wild pitch before Julio Cordido plated two runs with a base hit to give the Suns a 4-0 lead.

Florence made it 5-0 in the second with a sacrifice fly, then crushed a three-run homer in the fourth to push the Hagerstown lead to 8-0.

Florence's homer chased Arellan and Tyler Von Schell greeted reliever Andres Astacio by homering to left field on his first pitch.
