Post 202 batters Mt. Airy

WILLIAMSPORT - Williams-port American Legion manager Rick Keefer claims that his lineup is stacked with good hitters.

Williamsport gave a perfect illustration of that on Saturday afternoon when the first seven hitters in the batting order collected two hits apiece, leading Post 202 to an 8-4 win over Mt. Airy Gold Star Post 191 in a Western Maryland District baseball game.

Eight of the 14 hits by Williamsport (9-2, 2-0) were doubles.

"The big plus for us all day long was that we were able to move guys along on the bases," Keefer said. "We proved that we can hit from top to bottom. When we have hitting drills in practice, our guys work very hard. We're not hitting pop-ups; we're hitting line drives. With the speed that we have got, we were able to turn those line drive hits into doubles."

Mike Fravel had two doubles and two RBI, while Keith Kellinger and Josh Keyton added two doubles each for Williamsport. Gerad Haupt, Marty Kaetzel, John Quail and Andy Simmons also had two hits.

Starting pitcher Nick Adenhart got the win for Williamsport, allowing two runs and striking out six in five innings.

"We threw a lot of different pitchers," Keefer added. "We're counting on our bullpen this year. We got some quality pitching that didn't allow any big innings. Basically, that is the key to winning any nine-inning game."

Joe Moravec led Mt. Airy (4-3, 0-1) with two hits.

"Williamsport hit the ball well and they ran the bases well," Mt. Airy manager George Richardson said. "We weren't talking to each other out there in the field. You have got to talk to people."
