Injured trooper out of intensive care

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A West Virginia State Police trooper who was seriously injured in an accident Wednesday night has been moved from intensive care into the immediate care unit at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., a hospital spokesperson said Friday night.

There was no reported change in his condition.

Sgt. Scott E. Paugh was in critical condition following surgery Thursday afternoon.

Paugh's police cruiser was struck by a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder on Golf Course Road near Martinsburg, police said. Paugh received injuries to his head, left arm and left leg.

Police said the driver of the Pathfinder fled the scene on foot.

A spokesman at the Martinsburg barrack said Friday night there was no information available on whether an arrest had been made.
