The Institute for Learning in Retirement at Hagerstown Community College will offer the elderhostel with Maryland Symphony Orchestra Director Elizabeth Schulze. Senior adult musicians will be given opportunities to develop technique, musicianship, and listening skills. Schulze will lead the rehearsals and performances of intermediate level music in chamber ensembles and a chamber orchestra. Coaching and instruction will be provided by professional orchestra musicians and teachers. Shepherd's Spring Conference Center, Sharpsburg. Continues through Friday, June 14. Rehearsals will take place in the mornings and evenings, with time allowed for rest, excursions, or walking in the area. A final performance on Friday morning will be followed by lunch and departure. Women and Technology: Issues and Answers Conference

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - The conference provides women with an opportunity to learn how to succeed in science and technology fields and for professionals to get state-of-the-art information on promising models as well as networking and resources available. Topics include the lagging participation of women in science and technology fields; the role of K-12, community college, undergraduate and graduate education in preparing women for careers in technology; career tracks and business opportunities for women in technology; and networking and resources. Continues Tuesday, June 11, and Wednesday, June 12. Open to the public. $250, which covers meals and registration. Continuing education credits are available. Course on Battle of Antietam

University of Maryland University College is offering a one-credit history course that focuses on the 1862 Battle of Antietam. Topics include a study of the Maryland campaign of the Civil War, the battle itself, and its impact on the war's outcome. Assignments include reading and research. Tom Clemson will teach the course. Spring teas at Oatlands

LEESBURG, Va. - Spring teas will be held Thursdays and Fridays. A special "Tea and Tour" package is available with a reduced rate to tour the Oatlands mansion and gardens. Oatlands, U.S. 15. $15.95 plus tax for adults, $8.95 plus tax for ages 8 and younger. "Tea and Tour" is an additional $5. Advance reservations must be made and pre-paid by credit card. Carriage museum opens

FROSTBURG, Md. - The first exhibit of the season is "Time-Travelers" featured on the first floor of the museum. Visitors will have the opportunity to imagine travels on the roads and streets of the late 1800s and early 1900s.
