EVERETT, Pa. - Kayle Mellott had three hits and three RBI to lead Southern Fulton to a 5-0 victory over Shanksville Tuesday in the second round of the Pennsylvania District 5 Playoffs.

Kelly True moved her record to 16-3 with the complete-game shutout, allowing one hit while striking out eight.

Candace Bard added three hits for Southern Fulton (18-4), which advances to the district final on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Rams place four All-Region team

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Four members of the Shepherd College baseball team have been named to the 2002 NCAA Division II North Atlantic All-Region Baseball Team.


Sophomore catcher Charlie Drummond and junior outfielder Mike Spry were named to the first team and sophomore pitcher Jimmy Jackson and junior pitcher Brian Renner were second team choices.

Drummond was second on the team with a .413 batting average, behind Spry's .419. Spry set Shepherd records with 17 home runs and 51 RBI while tying for the team lead with 51 runs scored and 26 walks.

Jackson had a 7-1 record with a 4.24 ERA in 63 2/3 innings and had 10 saves. Renner was 10-5 record with a 2.82 ERA for the Rams with 92 2/3 innings pitched, including five complete games.

Shepherd (37-12-1) finished second in the North Atlantic Regional.

HCC place five on all Md. JuCo team

Three freshmen were selected to the first team to represent Hagerstown Community College on the Maryland JuCo Conference Division I All-Conference team.

Outfielder Nick Wenger, designated hitter Joe Helisek and pitcher Matt Bellon were selected from the Hawks.

Infielder Justin Warner and outfielder Les Martin, both sophomores, earned second team honors.

Pat Sweeney had two hits and five RBI, including a grand slam to lead the Braves (8-0, 7-0) at North Hagerstown. Brian Renner struck out eight in six innings.

Lions 8, Wolfe's 2: Colby McCauley led Lions with two hits. Francisco Decarla had two hits for Wolfe's.

AFL-CIO 5, Moose 2: Jeremy Smith struck out 10 while allowing just three hits and adding two RBI to pace AFL-CIO. J.R. Head and Colby Fisher combined for 10 strikeouts for Moose.

Maugansville Little League

Home Care Pharmacy 8, Brewer's Saab 0: Greg Luhouse fired a three-hitter while Aaron Mills and Derek Keener had three hits each to lead Home Care Pharmacy. Adam Plume had two hits for Brewer's.

Phil & Jerry's 14, Cavetown Planning 6: Codie Blickenstaff went 4-for-4 with two RBI for Phil & Jerry's.

South Mountain Little League

Nationwide 8, Reese's 4: Adam Collins, Tyler Walsh and Josh Stitely had two hits each to lead Nationwide. Jared Humphries had two hits for Reese's.

Halfway Little League

Redmen 11, Valley Storage Bins 5: Aaron Hershberger pitched a complete game three-hitter for Redmen. Corey Saufley, Joey Miller, Johnny Moser and Zach Weber each had two hits in the win. Justin Poffenberger hit two home runs for Valley Storage Bins.

Federal Little League

Rotary 11, American Legion 2: Kyle Hoffman struck out eight and had two hits, while Caroline Kreiger had two hits for Rotary.

Washington Co. Girls Softball

Nutter's Ice Cream 17, William Gower & Sons 2: Katie Marshall had three hits, while Brianna Miller, Jessica Manuel, Deanna Selleck, Courtney Kefauver and Brynn Arnone each had two hits for Nutters. Kayla Smith, Caitlin Shinham, Manuel and Arnone homered.

Clear Spring Junior League

Wilson Ruritan 8, Grosh's Lawn Care 1: Darrin Jackson went 4-for-4 with two doubles and winning pitcher Dustin Proctor struck out 10 to lead Wilson Ruritan. Adam Kriner added two hits.

National Little League

Funkstown Legion 6, FOP 3: Brad Kennedy allowed three hits and struck out 15, while Allen Barnett hit a home run for Funkstown Legion. David Stone and Steven Mills had two hits each in the win. Craig Oxyer had two hits for FOP.

Hancock Little League

Yankees 6, Pirates 5: Winning pitcher Jesse Smartt struck out 12 to lead the Yankees. Derek Shives homered for the Pirates.

Clear Spring Little League

Athletics 17, Cubs 0: Danny Reed and Cody Butts combined on a one-hitter, and Reed, Butts, Justin Higgins and Sammy Mills all had two hits to lead the Athletics.

Eagles 9, Elks 1: Tyler Ernde had three hits and Caesar Smith had two hits for Eagles.

Valley Little League

Dorsey Brothers 14, SMRG 9: Steven Younker had three hits and seven RBI, including two three-run homers while Patrick Solberg hit for the cycle to lead Dorsey. Donny Gray added two hits in the win. A.J. Minnich led SMRG with three hits.
