LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Hagerstown Suns used a four-run fifth inning on offense to overcome a couple of defensive lapses and defeat the Lakewood BlueClaws 5-4 Sunday, the team's season-high fifth straight victory in the South Atlantic League.
Both teams scored in the fourth inning for a 1-1 game. Hagerstown's Robbie Meyer singled in Tyler Von Schell for an early lead.
In the fifth, the Suns (25-26) got the runs it would need to win. Leonel Cabrera and Kevin Alexander walked before Julio Cordido hit a grounder to short. Trying to make a play on Cabrera at third, Lakewood instead threw the ball away, allowing Cabrera to score.
After a popout and a walk to Von Schell, Freddy Benavidez hit a two-run double and Meyer scored Benavidez on another double for a 5-1 lead.
