Reading Boonsboro

May 28, 2002

Some of Boonsboro Middle School Literacy Resource Teacher Sharon Giles' students join her in the "Brown Bag Book Bunch," an informal, once-a-week, lunch-hour quiet time to read.

Seventh-grader Maura James, 13, loves being able to get away from the busyness of the lunchroom.

She likes historical fiction, and also right now J.K. Rowling, creator of Harry Potter, is her favorite author.

Maura says she reads a lot. She likes being able to step back from her world for a minute.

Erik Hoffman, 13, an eighth-grader, is reading Roald Dahl."He's really funny." He likes the author's "BFG." That means Big Family Giant, Erik says.

Another favorite is "The Enormous Egg," by Oliver Butterworth. Erik also likes to read magazines - National Geographic World - and newspapers.
