Memorial day event slated at Letterkenny Chapel

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Letterkenny Chapel will be the site of a special Community Memorial Day Vesper Service at 7 p.m. Monday.

The speaker will be Chaplain Lt. Col. Lonnie S. Southern, head of the Operation Nobel Eagle Unit Ministry team based at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md. His duties include providing worship and study opportunities and counseling services to military personnel stationed at Letterkenny Army Depot.

The title of his message will be "Good Mourning America."

The program will include a media presentation by Specialist Chad Emrick, Southern's assistant. There will be a roll call of those who have served in the nation's wars.

Music will be provided by the St. John's Brass Ensemble and the choir from Believers Fellowship Church.

The Rev. Jeff Diller will bring greetings from the Chambersburg Area United Churches, Chaplain Col. Charles McGuire will lead the litany and the Rev. Larry Tucker of Believers Fellowship will offer the pastoral prayer.


The offering from the service will be dedicated to providing spiritual support to military personnel involved in the War on Terrorism.

The United Churches of the Chambersburg Area, which is sponsoring the service, is in the process of acquiring the Letterkenny Chapel to insure its historic preservation and to provide religious services to military and civilian personnel at the depot and to members of the congregations of Franklin County.
