Waynesboro advances in baseball playoffs-roundup

PREP BASEBALL


MANHATTEN TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Rusty Lynn had two hits, including a grand slam in the seventh inning, as Waynesboro defeated Cedar Crest 13-12 in eight innings on Monday in a first-round game of the District 3 Playoffs.

Adam Caron led Waynesboro with three hits, while Phil Woodring, Joe Wetherald, Eli Rock and Mike Sanders had two hits each.

Wes Lynn pitched a scoreless inning of relief to get his fifth win of the season.

Waynesboro (15-7, 8-4) will play Thursday.

Area runners place

PRINCETON, N.J. - Mount St. Mary's women's 4x800-meter relay team, led by North Hagerstown graduate Kari McCarty, ran their second best time of the spring, crossing the line in 9 minutes, 21.40 second to place 16th in the ECAC/IA4A meet on Sunday at Princeton.

Thomas Johnson graduate Shawn Day placed fifth in the 1,500 in 4:04.43.

Halfway Little League

Hoffman Auto 4, Gehr 1: Aaron Miles hit an inside-the-park home run and Zach Malphurs had two hits for Hoffman.

Gehr 9, Valley Storage 4: Kory Harp pitched a four-hitter with 16 strikeouts while Harp, Dylan Zimmerman, Chris McSherry and Kyle Stone had two hits for Gehr. Justin Poffenberger hit a home run and had three RBI for Valley.

Middletown 10, Smithsburg 3: Craig Dofflemyer had a two-run double and Matt Reichert had three hits for Smithsburg.

Dorsey Brothers 6, FOP 2: Steven Younker and Elliot Martin each had two hits for Dorsey Brothers.

Play It Again Sports 30, Grease Monkey 8: Robbie Veil had three hits, including a grand slam, while Casey Ymbert went 4-for-4. Veil and Ymbert had five RBI each and D.J. Johnson had two doubles for Play It Again Sports.

American Little League

Goodwill 10, Eagles 0: Tim Hamiltom threw a no-hitter while adding two hits while Darrin Callaway and Anthony Lee also had two hits for Goodwill.

Thompson Concrete 13, Elks 6: James Dotson had three hits while James Eichelberger and A.J. Lockley had two hits for Thompson Concrete.

Ruritan 10, Brewers 4: Joshua Constable pitched a two-hitter, striking out 10, and Brendan Palmer had two hits for Ruritan.

Reese's Home Improvement 11, Warrenfeltz 8: Tyler Sirbaugh and Steve Kauffman each had two hits and two RBI for Reese's.

Funkstown Legion 16, Antietam Fire Company 15: Chuck Rhinehart had two hits for Funkstown Legion. Michael Garner hit a home run and had four RBI for Antietam.

Funkstown Legion 16, Antietam 13: Brett Barr had three hits and six RBI, while Aaron Roby and Chuck Rinehart had two hits each for Funkstown. Dylan McNabb and Bryan Ferraiuolo had three hits each for Antietam.
