Dr. and Mrs. Hang Yul Rhee and Sung Mi Rhee of Hagers-town announce the engagement of their daughter, Dr. Eleanor Rhee to Dr. Matthew Alvarez, son of Dr. and Mrs. Carlos and Jacqueline Alvarez of Circleville, Ohio.

Dr. Rhee is a 1988 graduate of Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pa., received a bachelor of science degree cum laude from Williams College in 1992 and a medical degree from the Yale School of Medicine in 1998, where she was a Farr scholar. She is a chief resident completing a four-year residency in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Duke University Medical Center this year.

Dr. Alvarez received a bachelor of science degree in business administration summa cum laude from Ohio University in 1992, a medical degree from Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1998 and is completing a four-year residency in obstetrics and gynecology.

A July 6 wedding is planned.


Betty Jean Marshall and Richard William Rodeffer announce their engagement.

Miss Marshall is the daughter of Sarah and Joseph J.D. Marshall. She is a homemaker in Hagerstown.

Mr. Rodeffer is the son of Carolyn Rodeffer Frazier and the late Steven Arlen Rodeffer Sr. He is the stepson of Ricky Lynn Frazier. He is employed by Richardson's Restaurant.

A July 27 wedding is planned.


Dan and Mary Frances Ruffner Ellis of Keedysville announce the engagement of their daughter, Gretchen Marie Ellis, to Andrea Antonio Laporta, son of Michael and Ingrid Laporta of Benender, England.

Ms. Ellis is a 1994 graduate of Boonsboro High School, a 1998 graduate of Towson University with a bachelor's degree in psychology and sociology and received a master's degree from West Virginia University School of Social Work in 2000. She is employed in the emergency department of Northeast Medical Center in Concord, N.C.

Mr. Laporta is a 1990 graduate of Cranberook Grammar School and a 1994 graduate of London Guild Hall University. He is employed at The Royal Indemnity Co. in Charlotte, N.C.

A 2003 wedding is planned.


Michael W. Kreps and Rebecca A. Quin announce their engagement.

Ms. Quin is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. David Quin of Frederick, Md. She is a 1992 graduate of Thomas Johnson High School and a 1996 graduate of St. Francis College in Pennsylvania with a bachelor of science degree and a physician assistant science degree. She is employed by Antietam Health Services as the physician assistant at Williamsport Family Practice.

Mr. Kreps is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary L. Kreps of Falling Waters, W.Va. He is a 1992 graduate of Williamsport High School and a 1997 graduate of James Rumsey Technical Institute with a degree in automotive technology. He is employed as an automotive technician at Younger Toyota in Hagerstown,

Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Bolling Hobbs Jr. of Lynchburg, Va., announce the engagement of their daughter, Carson Lee Hobbs of Richmond, Va., to Jeffrey Todd Sullivan of Arlington, Va., son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Timothy Sullivan Jr. of Falling Waters, W.Va.

Miss Hobbs is a graduate of E.C. Glass High School, University of Virginia and George Mason University School of Law. She is serving as law clerk to the Honorable Roger L. Gregory, circuit judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Mr. Sullivan is a graduate of North Hagerstown High School and Appalachian State University. He is employed as a network security engineer for Sprint in Reston, Va.

A September wedding is planned.


Gloria J. Loveless and Paul E. Pepper announce their engagement.

Ms. Loveless is the daughter of Calvin and Jane Loveless of Hagerstown. She is a graduate of South Hagerstown High School and attended Hagerstown Junior College. She is employed at Martinsburg Computing Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Mr. Pepper is the son of Faith Pepper of Gonzales, La., and L.Z. Pepper of El Dorado, Ark. He is a graduate of El Dorado High School and attended Louisiana Tech University. He is employed at South Berkeley Trucking in Martinsburg.

A Sept. 7 wedding is planned.


Jennifer Brooke Mentzer and Franklin Ellsworth Barr announce their engagement.

Ms. Mentzer is the daughter of Ed and Chris Mentzer of Hagerstown. She is a 2000 graduate of Clear Spring High School, a 2002 graduate of Hagerstown Community College and will pursue a bachelor's degree in elementary education at Frostburg State University this fall.

Mr. Barr is the son of John and Teresa Barr of Clear Spring. He is a 1995 graduate of Grace Academy. He is employed at Ellsworth Electric in Hagerstown.

A wedding date has not been set.


Mr. and Mrs. Ronald and Virginia Ridenour of Hagerstown announce the engagement of their daughter, Candace Pearl Ridenour, to Troy Donald Henson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel and Linda Henson.

Ms. Ridenour is a 1997 graduate of Boonsboro High School and received a bachelor of science degree in sociology in 2001. She is employed by the State of Maryland.

Mr. Henson is a 1994 graduate of Boonsboro High School. He is self-employed.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul and Denise Hutchison of Winona Lake, Ind., and formerly of Hagerstown, announce the engagement of their daughter, Jessica Charleen Hutchison, to Jason Patrick Paris, son of Mr. and Mrs. George and Patricia Paris of Rochester, Ind.

Ms. Hutchison is a 2000 graduate of Warsaw Community High School and studied communication at the University of Indianapolis. She is employed at CE National in Winona Lake.

Mr. Paris is a 1998 graduate of Tippecanoe Valley High School and received a business degree in marketing from the University of Indianapolis in 2002.
