Va. man killed walking along highway

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - State Police in Martinsburg said Thursday they are still investigating the death of a man who was struck by a tractor trailer early Wednesday while he was walking in the eastbound lane of W.Va. 9 east of Martinsburg.

The identification of the victim was being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.

Police would only confirm that he was a 65-year-old man from Virginia.

The driver of the truck was identified as John Wilfong of Martinsburg. Wilfong's age and address were not released by police.

According to police, the accident occurred around 1 a.m. The truck was also eastbound, police said. After it hit the pedestrian the truck veered across the roadway and struck a bank, police said.
