Peggy A. Dick


MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Peggy Anne Chambers Dick, 71, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at the home of her daughter in Charles Town, W.Va.

Born Feb. 17, 1931, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Donald C. and Violet Mae Yontz Chambers.

Services and burial will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV 25401; or American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 873, Charleston, WV 25323.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

John O. Hamilton


CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - John Oliver Hamilton, 90, of Charles Town, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.

Born June 24, 1911, in Silver Spring, Md., he was the son of the late William and Edith Mae Sandie Hamilton.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Adele M. Hamilton, in 1997.

He had been employed by the Liquor Commission in Montgomery County, Md.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he received the Purple Heart and European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, among others.

He was of the Catholic faith.

He is survived by one daughter, Mary A. Carter of Charles Town; four sons, John O. Hamilton Jr. of Tucson, Ariz., Gene Hamilton of Thurmont, Md., Ronald Hamilton of Herndon, Va. and Michael Hamilton of Charles Town; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. The Rev. Brian Shoda will officiate.

A graveside service will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Rockville, Md.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lola M. Costa


SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Lola M. Baker Costa, 77, of Shippensburg Health Care Center and formerly of 445 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, Pa., died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at the nursing home.

Born Dec. 3, 1924, in Barnstable, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Harold and Murtice Crocker Baker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Costa, in 1993. They were married in 1972.

She attended schools in Massachusetts.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Waynesboro Senior Center.

She is survived by one daughter, Bonnie Carbaugh of Waynesboro; two sisters, Brenda Olsen of Newbedford, Mass. and Gloria Camso of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one brother, David Baker of Newbedford; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

Private services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bonnie Carbaugh, P.O. Box 452, Waynesboro, PA 17268.

Arrangements are by Cumberland Valley Crematorium, Waynesboro.

Mildred D. Ebersole


SOUTH MOUNTAIN, Pa. - Mildred D. Fouke Mitchell Ebersole, 91, of Michaux Manor Living Center and formerly of 10805 Wyncote Drive, Hagerstown, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born March 29, 1911, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Robert F. and Maude B. Miller Fouke.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Elmer W. Mitchell, in 1973. They were married in June 1932. She was preceded in death by her second husband, Leonard M. Ebersole, in 1993. They were married in August 1982.

She was a 1928 graduate of Washington Township High School.

She was employed as a certified nurse's aide by Waynesboro Hospital during World War II. She also did private duty nursing for many years. In 1970, she retired from Lena's Boutique in Hagerstown, where she was employed as a seamstress and bridal consultant.

She was a member of Grace Brethren Church in Waynesboro, where she was a Bible School teacher, served on various committees and organized and ran the Over 70 Club.

She is survived by one daughter, Sue Ellen Bowders of Waynesboro; one son, Elmer W. Mitchell of Weatherford, Texas; one sister, Rosalie F. Lopin of Palos Verdes, Calif.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Roa and Gladys Miller; and two brothers, Charles Fouke and Paul Fouke.

Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. Pastor Roger K. Myers will officiate. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

M. Donald Stilts


WAYNESBORO, Pa. - M. Donald Stilts, 76, of 10712 Fish and Game Road, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 2, 1925, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Melfred John Stilts and Minnie Farrell Cordell.

He was the owner of Don Stilts Window Washing Company, which he opened in 1949. He also owned and operated Stil-Brite Janitorial Supply Co. Earlier, he worked for Frick Co.

He was a member of Presbyterian Church of Waynesboro.
