Libraries, bookmobiles closed on Memorial Day

The Washington County Free Library and its branches and bookmobiles will be closed Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day.

Regular schedules will resume Tuesday, May 28.

Sheriff to speak during coffee hour series

Washington County Sheriff Charles Mades will speak Tuesday May 21 at 6 p.m. at the Western Maryland Hospital Center in the second-floor canteen.

Mades' appearance is part of the coffee hour series titled "Out of the Past" featuring speakers who share something special from their past. The events are coordinated by Theresa Keyser, community relationship coordinator at Potomac Center; and Sharon Silvers, volunteer coordinator at Western Maryland Hospital Center.

Individuals living at Potomac Center bring doughnuts or cake to share with the residents from Western Maryland Hospital Center and others in attendance.

Board to meet Thursday

The Governor's Advisory Board on Homelessness will meet Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the conference room at the Washington County Department of Social Services, 122 N. Potomac St.

Stakeholders from Garrett, Allegany, Washington, Frederick and Carroll counties are invited to come and share information and local concerns on homelessness.
