CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Irvin Sleighter threw a complete game, scattering eight hits and striking out seven as Chambersburg beat Mechanicsburg to earn the No. 1 seed in the Class AAA District 3 tournament beginning this weekend.

Chambersburg (16-5) got all three of its runs in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Aaron Burke and a two-run single by Sleighter.

MARION, Pa. - Winning pitcher Zach Garnes went 3-for-3 as the Flames used a seven-run third inning to move into the Mason-Dixon Christian Conference final.

Trevor Whitman, David Helman and Denver Martin all had two hits for Shalom (11-2), which plays the CVCS-Grace winner at 5 p.m. Thursday at Hagerstown Community College for the league championship.


Jon Bakner had three hits and John Bishop had two hits for Broadfording.

BOONSBORO - Southern Garrett pitcher Jennifer Bosley threw her third perfect game in her last four outings, striking out 17 to lead the Rams to a victory over Smithsburg in the Class 1A West quarterfinals at Boonsboro.

Bosley struck out 14 of the last 15 batters she faced to put Southern (15-1) into the semifinals later this week against the South Hagerstown-Allegany winner.

Tuesday's game between the Campers and Rebels was suspended after two innings because of inclement weather in Cumberland. The teams will resume play at 4 today.

Brunswick 8, Oakland MIlls 7

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Janelle Moss went 2-for-4 and drove in the winning run with a deep drive to left to lead Brunswick over Oakland Mills in the Class 1A South quarterfinals.

Kate Prinkey had a two-run triple for Brunswick (7-14), which plays at Catoctin in the semifinals today.

SHORT GAP, W.Va. - Megan Zahnow had three hits, including a grand slam, and drove in eight runs as Berkeley Springs beat Tucker County to win the Class AA Region II semifinals.

Maggie Smith had four RBI and Jess Detrick had three for the Indians, who advance to the region final Friday at Morgantown.

McCLEAN, Va. - David Hammond scored two goals, while John Clark, Tom Syverson and Miles Chan each scored one for St. James in a loss to Potomac in the Mid Atlantic Conference quarterfinals.

SMITHSBURG - Philip Powell homered and drove in three runs for Funkstown. Daniel Lynn and David Miner each had two hits. Miner threw a three-hitter with eight strikeouts. Ben Mertz hit a two-run homer for Smithsburg.

Funkstown Legion 12, Eagles 1: Ty Jacobson and Tony Bender combined on a no-hitter, while Demetrius Stubbs George Casper each had two hits.
