WILLIAMSPORT - It took some patience for the Boonsboro bseball team to get out of Williamsport with a win on Tuesday: Patience in the batter's box and patience to wait out a storm.

The Warriors found enough of both to knock off the Wildcats 7-3 and advance to the Class 1A West semifinals today against Westmar.

Anxious at the plate and trailing 2-0 after two innings, Boonsboro (14-5) began to make Williamsport starter Ben Jordan work in the top of the third. Dan Wisner walked, Derrick Metzger reached on a bunt single and Cody Hanes singled to center to load the bases.

All three hitters went deep in the count against Jordan, who pitched seven innings in Williamsport's playoff win against Beall on Friday.

"We knew if we were going to get to him, we had to make it a seven-inning game," said Boonsboro coach Fred Kreiger. "We started to work him in that inning."

Jordan struck out Nathan Himes swinging for the first out, but not until Himes had worked the count full. Mike Fravel and Keith Kellinger drew back-to-back walks to tie the score before Nathan Kaetzel's sacrifice fly plated Hanes with the go-ahead run.

Storm clouds rolled in during the fourth inning and, after Kellinger reached on a single and error in the top of the fifth, the game was interrupted by rain for about 40 minutes.

Jordan stayed in following the break, but he issued consecutive walks to Nathan Kaetzel and Marty Kaetzel to load the bases. Steve Weaver followed with a two-run single and Wisner got a base hit to chase Jordan.

"The break definitely hurt us a lot more than them," Williamsport coach Rod Steiner said. "Ben didn't get his normal four days rest, but he was fresh and he wanted the ball."

Jordan had the Warriors off balance in the first two innings and Williamsport (8-13) took advantage with a run in each frame against Boonsboro starter Nathan Kaetzel.

In the first, Matt Allen walked and scored on Eddie Martin's double. In the second, Eric Fitzgerald reached on a fielder's choice and later scored on an RBI single from Jordan.

Kaetzel went the distance for the Warriors, striking out five. Himes had three hits, while Kellinger, Marty Kaetzel and Metzger each had two.

Allen and Bowers each had two hits for the Wildcats. Allen hit a solo home run to lead off the fifth inning.
